Soros family contributes $71K to Letitia James since 2019

Liberal billionaire George Soros and his family have funneled over $71,000 into the political campaigns of New York Attorney General Letitia James since 2019.

This hefty financial backing, as reported by the New York Post, includes direct donations and indirect support through progressive groups, raising eyebrows among critics who see a pattern of funding far-left agendas.

For everyday New York taxpayers, this kind of money in politics often translates to higher legal costs as state resources are diverted to pursue what many conservatives view as politically charged cases, like the civil fraud actions against former President Donald Trump.

Soros Donations: A Closer Look

Breaking it down, the Soros family’s contributions include $31,000 specifically for James’s 2026 reelection bid.

George Soros himself chipped in $18,000 in July 2024, while his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Soros, added $13,000 in May 2024.

Combined with earlier donations since 2019, the family’s direct support to James totals roughly $40,000 beyond these recent figures.

Indirect Support Through Progressive Groups

That’s not the full picture—indirect backing through left-leaning organizations like the Working Families Party (WFP), which has received over $865,000 from Soros’ Open Society Foundations since 2018, also bolsters James’ campaigns.

James, who first rose to prominence in 2003 as the initial WFP candidate elected to New York’s City Council in Brooklyn, has maintained ties to the group’s progressive agenda.

Though she ran as a Democrat in 2018 alongside then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, she embraced the WFP’s endorsement during her 2022 reelection, showing her alignment with their far-left priorities.

Criticism Mounts Over Political Motives

Critics aren’t holding back, arguing that Soros’ influence peddles instability, a point hammered home by Michael Henry, a Republican challenging James in 2026.

“George Soros has spent years financing the radical left’s most extreme projects, and the outcome is almost always the same: instability and disorder that is destroying our state,” Henry said, per the New York Post.

Well, Henry’s not wrong to raise alarms—when deep-pocketed donors align with officials pushing controversial policies, it often leaves regular folks wondering who’s really calling the shots in Albany.

James’ Legal Battles and Backlash

James has used her position to target Trump with civil fraud cases over his business valuations, actions many conservatives call selective enforcement designed to hobble his enterprises and political ambitions.

While a New York appellate court in August 2024 overturned over $500 million in fines against Trump, the saga continues to fuel accusations of political lawfare with unprecedented legal tactics and steep penalties.

Meanwhile, James faced her own legal scrutiny in October 2024 with mortgage fraud charges tied to a Virginia property, though the case was dismissed after a judge ruled the federal prosecutor’s appointment was invalid—hardly a ringing endorsement of her record.
