DANIEL VAUGHAN: The Left Is Creating Deadly Situations In Minnesota
In heated moments when a national story becomes "the thing," and everyone takes hard sides, it helps to drain emotion and focus on what happened. That's something that most mainstream outlets cannot do anymore, and all they do is inflame tensions further. That's part of the problem in Minnesota; the other part is ridiculous rage at government officials.
Let's start with the Minnesota ICE shooting by clearing one very important hurdle: we're missing critical information. The most important information we need is body-cam footage from the ICE agents on the ground. Seeing things from their vantage point solidifies every key fact beyond doubt.
I mention that because right now, especially in the press, everyone is picking their preferred video of the event. Each witness with a camera is viewing from a different angle, enters the scene at a different time, and sees things just slightly differently. ICE body camera footage will leave no doubts.
In terms of the event itself, ignoring everything else, the woman in the driver's seat disobeyed an armed agent's orders and tried to speed off. You can't do that. No state or federal law's going to side with anyone who tries to flee a police officer, ICE agent, or anyone conducting a stop.
The woman probably panicked in that moment. We won't know for sure until we get that bodycam footage, but that seems likely. I can understand that, but if one ICE agent's interaction triggers total panic, then we need to discuss why you were there.
On that point, liberals argue that she was a peaceful person, either protesting or "monitoring" events. Her friends and family claim she was part of "ICE Watch."
In an interview with the mother, The New York Post learned ICE Watch consisted of "activists using phone apps, whistles and car horns to warn neighborhoods when ICE shows up. ICE Watch and adjacent groups can also turn confrontational — with numerous instances of activists ramming agents with their cars in the past."
The mother said, "[Renee Good] was trained against these ICE agents — what to do, what not to do, it's a very thorough training ... To listen to commands, to know your rights, to whistle when you see an ICE agent."
I feel for the mother in this case; she's defending her deceased daughter. But that's simply not true. Good wasn't trained. If she were, she wouldn't have put that vehicle in drive and tried to speed off. This is not a trained person; it's a leftist agitator pretending to be something more, and getting in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Protests are fine. Getting in the way of government acts is not. This is a distinction no liberal seems capable of making. An amateur activist has no place doing these kinds of things, and the fact that you see liberals throwing themselves at cars, driving to shut down traffic, and more reflects a total disconnect with reality. It's the height of privilege to believe everything bends to your single will.
Regardless, that brings us to the ICE agent. He did not enter this situation in a vacuum. He is a trained officer and was carrying out official duties. Last June, according to The Daily Mail, he was dragged 50 feet by a car that performed a similar maneuver here, and suffered "gruesome injures."
It is entirely reasonable to argue that he overreacted by firing a gun. However, it is clear from case law that this was a lawful use of lethal force. Her car was subject to a stop, an agent had an arm in the vehicle, she gunned the engine with another ICE agent in front of the vehicle, and that's when he opened fire.
Law enforcement is unfortunately in this situation with a disturbing frequency. We've had instances of officers either dying or being severely injured in states like Florida, Kansas, and more, where this exact situation played out.
It was a split-second decision; lives were in danger, and he acted. Note that after the shot, she gunned the engine further and crashed further down the street. This was a dangerous situation in the extreme.
It's a tragic situation that was avoidable, but the worst presented itself in that moment. We don't have all the information we need, but the video and evidence that does exist do not paint the picture of a murderous rampage that Tim Walz and other Democrats are describing.
The right is over its skis when they begin to attack the woman directly. There's no need for that here. It's a tragic situation, and she lost her life. She never should have been there; in no reasonable way could she be considered "trained" to handle anything like this. The notion that she was coming from the left is just ridiculous.
There are moments in this country where the police force is beyond the pale. That deserves to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We're not in one of those situations here. Even if you ignore whether or not the officer was in front of the car, pending bodycam footage, she still broke multiple laws fleeing an officer. She was a criminal in that moment, not an innocent person.
ICE Watch and groups like it should either disband or stick to protests. If this is their "training," they're actively creating deadly situations. Engaging with ICE and police officers endangers everyone. ICE has a job to do, whether you want that to happen or not. The notion that liberals can throw up barriers to legitimate exercises of government power is farcical.
Tim Walz and others claim that ICE is endangering people, but it's the opposite: leftist groups violently engaging with ICE and other groups are those creating danger. The perspective here is wildly off and needs to be fixed ASAP.
But the rhetoric from Democratic leaders seems disturbing: they want more clashes and more blood. It's a shocking look, particularly given the level of fraud we're watching play out in this same state.
