Arizona Dem Ansari linked to YouTuber on Chorus council under Oversight probe
Rep. Yassamin Ansari is romantically tied to a left-wing YouTuber on the creator council of Chorus, the influencer program her own House Oversight Committee is investigating, according to multiple reports.
Breitbart News reported that Democratic Rep. Yassamin Ansari of Arizona is involved with Jack Cocchiarella, a commentator who sits on the creator council of Chorus, the left-leaning social media program now under House scrutiny.
The pair have been seeing each other for the past few months after first meeting when Cocchiarella interviewed her in spring 2025, and sources describe the relationship as going strong. Ansari, 34, serves on the House Oversight Committee. Cocchiarella, 24, hosts a YouTube show with more than 1.5 million subscribers.
The New York Post noted that Ansari is a first-term Democrat representing Arizona’s 3rd District and the first Iranian-American Democrat elected to Congress. Both declined to discuss their personal lives when asked.
Ansari told the outlet she was focused elsewhere.
"I’m not commenting on my personal life, nor is it anyone’s business. Right now, ICE is terrorizing communities across the country with zero accountability, and Trump’s reckless war in Iran continues raging on. I’m focused on helping to flip the House so we can pass meaningful legislation, that’s what we should all be focused on."
Cocchiarella likewise said he does not like to comment on his personal life.
Birthday party and public appearances put the pair together
Sources Say News, in a Thursday report by Juliegrace Brufke, said the relationship was not a one-off. Ansari attended Cocchiarella’s 24th birthday party at his residence the preceding Friday and helped with setup. Multiple sources described a flirtatious dynamic.
Attendees at an MS NOW party during White House Correspondents’ Dinner weekend also described the two as affectionate. Screenshots of text messages from confirmed guests backed that account. Cocchiarella was said to have confirmed involvement with “a Democratic congresswoman.”
Both appeared at a MoveOn “Won’t Back Down” event in Phoenix in August. Cocchiarella had hosted Ansari on his YouTube show as recently as July. Nothing under House rules forbids the relationship, and Cocchiarella is not a congressional employee.
Personal drama around Arizona Democrats is not new territory, as seen when Kyrsten Sinema’s ex-bodyguard faced felony charges tied to property destruction at her home.
Comer’s Chorus probe targets dark-money influence networks
House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., opened an investigation into Chorus in November 2025. The probe examines whether the program has been used to circumvent campaign-finance disclosure requirements. Chorus pays left-leaning social media creators and originally operated under the Sixteen Thirty Fund, a left-leaning nonprofit.
The committee subpoenaed the Sixteen Thirty Fund for records in May. Comer has conducted the inquiry through chairman letters and a chairman-issued subpoena rather than a formal hearing or markup. YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen has publicly identified himself as a Chorus co-founder. Cocchiarella appears on the group’s creator council; some sources have described him as having called himself a co-founder, though the website lists him on the council, not in leadership.
Ansari has served on the Oversight Committee since January 2025. Sources Say found no public record of her questioning a witness about Chorus, casting a vote on the inquiry, or any involvement at all.
Democrats have faced repeated fallout when personal conduct collides with political ambition, including when a second sexual misconduct allegation battered a Maine Senate campaign and party figures stepped back.
Earlier accusations trailed Cocchiarella through college
NH Journal reported in 2022 that Dartmouth disciplined Cocchiarella over at least one accusation of abusive behavior and removed him from the Dartmouth College Democrats. A letter warned he could face suspension under the school’s gender-based misconduct policy.
The Columbia Spectator later reported multiple sexual assault accusations stemming from his Dartmouth years. Cocchiarella sued a former classmate who accused him online of rape; the suit settled. He has denied wrongdoing. His lawyer told NH Journal he had never been accused of sexual assault and had never been the subject of a criminal or Title IX investigation. Dartmouth later stated in emails that he was never investigated and left in good academic standing. He transferred to Columbia and graduated in 2025.
Staff-level misconduct headaches have hit other Democratic offices too, including a case where a California Democrat’s $207K chief of staff faced HR complaints after a crude attack on a journalist.
Sharp rhetoric from both sides of the pairing
Cocchiarella has drawn attention for hard-edged online posts. In response to footage of demonstrators attempting to storm BlackRock’s New York City headquarters, he wrote, “F*** BlackRock free Palestine it’s that simple.” On CNN he described Trump as “kind of this dementia-addled, really nursing home patient in the White House right now.” Of JD Vance he said, “This guy’s a squish. He’s weak. He’s desperate for power.”
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, in a related interview context, called Vance “complete weakness masquerading as strength” and praised Cocchiarella’s YouTube platform.
Ansari has matched the tone in public remarks. She said then-Attorney General nominee Todd Blanche “belongs in jail.” She announced plans to impeach Pete Hegseth and declared, “Only Congress has the power to declare war, not a rogue president or his lackeys.” On April 9 she called Trump “mentally unstable and unfit for office” and said he posed “a clear and present danger to this country,” urging impeachment or 25th Amendment removal. On September 6 she called for Democrats to investigate the financial dealings of Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Barron Trump if they won the House.
At a HER Agenda press conference alongside Reps. Adelita Grijalva, D-Ariz., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., Ansari backed up to 12 days of paid leave a year for reproductive health and argued, “Men can leverage the policy to get a vasectomy or fertility treatments.” In another setting she said, “Constituent does not mean voter. I don’t care if none of these individuals can vote for me, I don’t give a s***.”
Tabloid-style personal controversies continue to surface across public life, from politics to entertainment, much like the episode in which a suspended ‘Wheel of Fortune’ announcer was photographed viewing an alleged pedophilia chatroom on a flight.
Ansari has also traveled to El Salvador to advocate for deportees and criticized ICE operations at a facility in Eloy, Arizona. Sources have claimed she shifted her public posture on Israel after the relationship began, though the precise timeline and posts remain thinly documented in the available accounts.
The core facts remain straightforward. A sitting Oversight member is dating a high-profile creator embedded in the very influence network her committee is examining. House rules may not bar the relationship. Voters still notice when the people writing the subpoenas share a social calendar with the people named in them.
Accountability starts with clear lines. When those lines blur, the public has every right to ask who benefits.
