Kai Trump posts hospital selfie after second wrist surgery pauses Miami golf season

Kai Trump is recovering in New York after another wrist surgery for a college golf injury, telling followers she chose long-term health over forcing a full season.

Fox News Digital reported that President Trump’s eldest grandchild, 19, underwent the procedure at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City and shared an Instagram update from her hospital bed with her left arm in a cast and sling.

The competitive golfer on the University of Miami women’s team said the injury hit during her first tournament of the season. She had hoped to skip the operating room. After talks with family, coaches, and athletic training staff, she decided surgery was the right call for her future in the sport.

That decision tracks with the same steady approach she showed when Kai Trump left home for freshman year at Miami and stepped into Division I golf.

Injury hit early and forced a hard choice

The New York Post reported the wrist damage came in September at her first University of Miami tournament. The latest operation followed an earlier left-wrist surgery in January for ECU tendon and triangular fibrocartilage complex problems.

She thanked Dr. Carlson and the HSS team by name and credited teammates, coaches, and family for the support around her. Recovery, she said, “will take time.”

In her Instagram post she wrote:

"While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches and athletic training staff, I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love."

She added that the next few months are not what she planned, yet she is meeting the setback with patience and determination.

Family edge and a clear goal to return

Kai has long pointed to the competitive streak she shares at home. On a July appearance on “Fox & Friends,” she said her mom is competitive too, “but definitely Grandpa’s very competitive.” She also described being a little nervous about the next chapter while staying roughly an hour and a half from her siblings.

Trump family personal updates often travel the same circuit as other household stories, from Tiffany Trump’s family vacation photos to campus life notes on the younger generation.

Photo captions from The Annika at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, dated Nov. 13 and 14, 2025, show her still swinging tee shots before this latest medical stop. The new surgery now puts those months on hold.

She closed the hospital update with a direct message to her team:

"For now, it’s all about healing, and trusting the process. I can’t wait to be back with my team, doing what I love. I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever! Go Canes!"

Readers who follow White House family rhythms have seen similar trade-offs elsewhere, including coverage of how packed schedules squeeze family time and separate pieces on Barron Trump’s campus style away from formal politics.

Kai framed the moment simply: having the right people nearby makes the difference, and every challenge is a chance to grow. She said she is incredibly fortunate to be lifted up by that circle while she heals.

Young athletes who put long-term health first, lean on family, and refuse to quit the game they love are exactly the example the country needs more of.
