In 2024, one of the major flashpoints of the year was the death of Laken Riley at the hands of an illegal immigrant who murdered her in cold blood. The nation reacted in horror at hearing her die. Trump won, in part, because of stories like that. We got another story like that this week, which underlines the need for continued crackdowns.

A viral video shows the moment Harjinder Singh is driving a tractor-trailer down a road and suddenly starts an illegal U-turn. "The roadway horror happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday on the Florida Turnpike near Fort Pierce when the tractor-trailer driven by suspect Harjinder Singh made a hard left turn across the highway and attempted to cross the median through an "Official Use Only" pass, authorities said."

He began a turn, blocking all lanes of traffic, and a black minivan crashed into the side of the trailer, killing three people inside. The van had no possibility of stopping in time, and police have charged Singh with homicide.

What has struck the entire country is that neither Singh nor his passenger seemed to care about what happened. "Inside the truck's cab, Singh appeared completely unaffected by the violence unfolding on the highway. He looked out the cab window and watched as the minivan flew down the highway into the trailer. When it collided and the truck was sent shuddering, his face remained unchanged as he calmly put his vehicle into park and turned the engine off."

Singh is here illegally. The crash happened in Florida. Singh got his CDL license in California and Washington.

Florida investigators uncovered more galling evidence. "During an interview with the driver ... investigators administered an English Language Proficiency (ELP) assessment. Singh failed the assessment and only provided 'correct responses to just 2 of 12 verbal questions,' and he only accurately identified '1 of 4 highway traffic signs,' according to the press release."

Additionally, they added, "[O]n July 15, 2023, Washington State 'issued' Singh a 'regular full-term Commercial Driver's License (CDL),' and that on July 23, 2024, the driver was issued a 'limited-term/non-domiciled CDL' in California."

Notably, in 2022, Gavin Newsom signed a law expanding drivers licenses to illegal aliens. The Trump administration had denied Singh the ability to work here in 2020. The Biden administration granted Singh the ability to work here in 2021, and then Newsom's state gave him a CDL license.

Like Laken Riley, these three deaths did not have to happen. Harjinder Singh was in the United States illegally and should have been deported under any sane administration. Instead, Florida prosecutors will have to send him through the legal system under homicide charges. He was functionally illiterate and unable to drive safely.

What evidence do Democrats need? How many more deaths have to happen before they wake up?

The Democratic Party has claimed, baselessly, that every policy passed by Republicans (including repealing net neutrality rules) would lead to countless deaths. They claim to care when Americans die.

Yet here we have yet another homicide case involving an illegal alien, and they can't even muster curiosity or outrage. To put a fine point on this: Democrats lost the elections in 2016 and 2024, in part, because they've lost their minds on the issue of border security and immigration.

Kamala Harris got sent to the southern border to handle it, and nothing happened. People poured across the border, which infuriated most Americans, leading to broad support for mass deportations in any polls you examined throughout 2024 and this year.

It's hard to see why ICE raids are wrong. They ran more busts in California this week, rounding up more people with criminal records. And instead, what we get are leftists committing arson against ICE facilities across the country. The other term for this is domestic terrorism.

What could have stopped this is if ICE had deported Harjinder Singh. That act alone would have saved a life. If we'd deported Laken Riley's killer, another life would have been saved, too.

We're experiencing entirely preventable deaths in the country, all because one party has no interest in enforcing laws on the books. Democrats claimed throughout the Biden administration that they couldn't do anything about immigration and the border, because we needed legislation.

One month into the Trump administration proved that wrong. I'd love an overhaul of the immigration system, with more judges and everything. But enforcing laws now and deporting people only took the initiative. Biden opened the borders while Harris pretended to be the Vice President.

Those choices, while siding with illegal aliens over American citiznes, are we're in the spot we are today. Harjinder Singh's homicides did not have to happen. But they did. And it's a reminder that Democrats stand for open borders and illegal aliens over law-abiding citizens.
