DANIEL VAUGHAN: Congress Finally Censures Rashida Tlaib, But They'll Have To Do It Again

The House voted 234 to 188 to censure Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib for her continuous blood libels and calls for the eradication of Israel and Jews. That's not how the news media is covering it - but when it's a bipartisan affair in Congress over censoring a member, it's worth paying attention. According to the American Press, Congress is "censoring" the "only Palestinian-American" in Congress for her "views on Israel." But there's no other way to read Tlaib's statements.

Tlaib chanted the infamous slogan, "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free." Everyone who uses that phrase means the same thing, whether it's Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, or any other group: they want the complete eradication of Israel and all Jews. None of this is a secret. It's quite literally stated in the Hamas founding documents, and they got it from those who preceded them. Tlaib is not an idiot. She said what she believes, and anyone with their head screwed on straight takes her at her word.

Censure Was The Least Congress Could Do

In that light, censure is an incredibly light punishment for Tlaib. The House should have expelled her for being a prominent racist seeking the death of Jews. Instead, she gets a slap on the wrist. At a minimum, she shouldn't hold any committee assignments, nor should many of her Squad friends who believe and claim the same thing. They're already supporting the mobs swarming US cities chanting the same death-cult chants of Hamas. Censure is the very least Congress could do when dealing with these racist Jew-haters.

Tlaib's defense is that she doesn't mean what she's calling for; she only stands for "peace." She and the Squad will pander to their audience and suggest that the Palestinians don't have any other choice but to act. That's a curious defense, though. By that measure, she's saying that the Palestinians themselves are to blame for the depravity on October 7, 2023. When you suggest that a people have no other course but to act, you're saying they committed the acts in question.

But I know Tlaib would disagree with that. So what she's really saying is that Hamas had no other reason to do what they did, and she's defending that. Hamas didn't need a reason to kill Jews on October 7, 2023. It's like asking a wasp why it stung you. It did it because that's what it does. Hamas sought out Jews to butcher and murder because that's what they do. There's a reason Hamas and its sister groups have fired missiles into Israel at civilian targets for years on end - they want to end all Jewish life on earth.

Heads They Win, Tails We Lose

You won't hear the Tlaib and friends telling Hamas to stick to international law or tell Hamas to avoid civilian casualties. They only criticize Israel for these things. It's a "Heads I win, Tails you lose" argument. Whatever the point being made, Jews are always to blame, and Israel is always an evil state. That's despite there being no evidence that Hamas is interested in running a peaceful state. Hamas has taken every resource offered in the area and turned it back on Israel in an attempt to kill Jews.

The one fortunate part of all this is that Tlaib has been swiftly condemned and censured for her racism. "When Tlaib tweeted "From the river to the sea," Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen responded that the slogan "is a call for eliminating the state of Israel." When Tlaib defended it as "an aspirational call for freedom," Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz posted, correctly: "This phrase means eradicating Israel and Jews. Period. Dressing it up in a new PR ploy won't change that." Washington Rep. Kim Schrier: "This expression is a call for the elimination of the State of Israel."

In short, Tlaib demanded everyone to defend the indefensible. Partisanship got most of her party to protect her in the vote. By itself, that's disgusting, and many of those Democrats (and the five Republicans) should be ashamed for supporting such a racist. But Congress did vote to censure her, and the margin of victory was +49 in a closely divided chamber.

Congress Will Have To Act Again. Nothing Has Changed.

The thing everyone knows is this: Tlaib and her Squad friends won't stop. Everyone knows who and what she is and that nothing will change. She will make outlandish statements about Jews and Israel again because that's who she is. Are Democrats ready for another vote? Because as sure as I know the sun will rise tomorrow, I know that Rashida Tlaib and her Squad friends will call again for the eradication of the Jewish state.

Like the mobs running around Washington DC and the rest of the country, the end goal is the same. As we watch Jews killed in the United States and attacked abroad, the meaning of Tlaib's words is resoundingly clear. That's why it is equally important for the United States to stand with Israel just as resoundingly.

Am Yisrael Chai.
