DANIEL VAUGHAN: Democrats Are Beholden To A Death Cult
Left-wing political terrorism is metastasizing in America in a terrifying way. The proof is not just in Charlie Kirk's murder, but the assassination that preceded it and the reaction of another radical leftist on the ground during the shooting. If you're not a radical leftist, you're a target, and we have to grapple with that as a country.
The first event was the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. He was gunned down in broad daylight by Luigi Mangione, who has become a cult folk hero on the left. On Tuesday, when a judge bizarrely tossed out a terrorism charge on Mangione, a radical leftist crowd outside the courthouse erupted in cheers.
I know attorneys I used to work with, with far-left liberal beliefs, who cheered on Mangione on social media when the event happened in February. In the post-election era of Trump's second term, this was the first true sign that the liberal side of the aisle was taking a dangerous turn. When they couldn't repute the evilness of gunning down an innocent executive in a city, the plot was lost.
Now that we've arrived at the killing of Charlie Kirk, the left has no antibodies to combat this kind of violence. To liberals, Charlie Kirk and Brian Thompson were both evil and deserved death. They're stuck in a fever swamp dream claiming that Kirk's killer, Tyler Robinson, was somehow a right-wing groyper to get out of this. These claims exist despite the killer's text messages explicitly laying out the opposite.
He texted his roommate to look under his keyboard. "The roommate looked under the keyboard and found a note that stated, 'I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I'm going to take it.'"
That led to the following exchange:
Roommate: Why?
Robinson: Why did I do it?
Roommate: Yeah
Robinson: I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can't be negotiated out.
Everything Robinson says matches stereotypical Democratic talking points where all Republicans are threats to the country. Liberals have demanded for years all debate get shut down because "platforming" the right is an evil by itself.
Negotiations are over. The same is true of Mangione. There's no debate for him or his cabal of supporters. The blood excites them and gives them the thrill they desperately demand.
But the problem doesn't end there.
Next, we have to deal with the man who was present at Charlie Kirk's killing and tried to help.
George Zinn, 71, was arrested at the scene of the shooting. At the time, most reports claimed he was the shooter. And that's because he was shouting that he was the shooter. He was demanding that the police shoot him for that egregious act.
After being taken to the police station, his story changed. "According to the affidavit, after he asked for a lawyer, without being asked any questions by investigators, he stated that he did not shoot Kirk and that he said he did to draw attention away from the real shooter."
Police added, "Zinn was later taken to the hospital because of a medical condition, and Zinn reportedly told an officer that he was glad he said he shot the individual so the real suspect could get away. He also said he 'wanted to be a martyr for the person who was shot,' according to the probable cause statement."
Let's unpack this for a moment. Zinn, to our knowledge, had no foreknowledge of what was going to happen. Robinson mentions Zinn in his texts:
Roommate: you weren't the one who did it right????
Robinson: I am, I'm sorry
Roommate: I thought they caught the person?
Robinson: no, they grabbed some crazy old dude, then interrogated someone in similar clothing.
The crazy old dude, George Zinn, understood immediately what had happened. He witnessed the gunshots, saw Kirk get hit, and immediately jumped to aid the shooter. It took Zinn seconds to realize this was a politically motivated shooting, something that he agreed with, and he was willing to die for that belief as a "martyr" on the spot.
George Zinn is the suicide vest liberal. He's as committed as Luigi Mangione and Tyler Robinson, and all he needed was a sudden kick to jump into the fray, willingly. It took no agreement between anyone involved to do what they did. They tacitly understood the actions, agreed with them, and went into action.
If there were any more coordination, we'd call this a sleeper terrorist cell. And on that point, we may learn more. The FBI is investigating social media accounts that were posting weeks before Kirk was murdered, that something was going to happen to him on the date in question.
It's unclear whether Tyler Robinson kept his plans to himself or worked with others. Zinn may know more than he's letting on. But even if he doesn't, the fact that he quickly jumped in to aid an assassin speaks volumes about the mental state of a randomly selected liberal on a college campus.
It should be much harder for an assassin to randomly get helpers in the middle of a hit job. Yet Tyler Robinson had one in seconds. Luigi Mangione has a fan club cheering for him outside the courthouse while they build shrines to him.
It's worth reflecting on one other point we are fortunate: Tyler Robinson's family was conservative. They helped turn him over to police. If Robinson's family held the same beliefs as him, would they have done the same? That tragically seems unlikely, and for proof see George Zinn or Luigi Mangione's fan club.
The left is beholden to a culture of death that is dangerous. We're not talking about dangerous speech - we're talking about dangerous actions. They are worshipping and aiding assassins to kill innocent people in American society.
That is a dangerous step for a major political party in American society.
