DANIEL VAUGHAN: Democrat's Fake Outrage About The East Wing
The freakout among Democrats over Trump's new ballroom, replacing the old East Wing, has been incredible to watch. It's been instructive on multiple fronts, but perhaps the most telling part is that this is nothing more than more primal screaming from people who hate anything this administration does, no matter what it is.
We can quickly address the valid criticism of Trump's actions. First, he could be more upfront about what is happening and the plans. And two, they could have given more heads up that what they were doing would involve tearing down the East Wing.
In short, transparency about what is happening. Although, due to national security concerns, not all of those upgrades are publicly known. Every president since Truman has made significant changes to the White House in some way or another.
The infamous attacks on 9/11 made it clear to the Bush administration that the secure bunkers from the Kennedy and Reagan years couldn't handle modern demands. Bush began with an immediate overhaul of the famed White House situation room, making it far more functional. Biden completed a second round of upgrades to the same facilities.
The other thing the Biden administration doubled down on using was the "fake Oval Office" facilities, which the Trump administration mocked upon re-entering the White House. Obama and Trump had used similar tactics for photo ops. Biden's team ramped up use as they hid his condition, starting on day one.
For several years of the Obama administration, the north lawn remained hidden and under construction while a new underground labyrinth was built, sparking conspiracies and shielding it from the press's prying eyes. Most of the structures there also deal with the security of the compound and ongoing operations.
There's this notion among Democrats that the building itself is somehow unchanging, and it's anything but true. The White House is a real, live organism of a building that adapts to the demands of the president within it, and the tasks before it.
A ballroom is not a scandal—it's a necessity in diplomacy, security, and statecraft. The White House cannot, as it currently stands, host high-level state dinners and events. Trump understands this, and has for decades. He point-blank offered Barack Obama to fund and build this same ballroom in the early 2010s.
The Washington Post Editorial Board is being forced to pour cold water on Democrats because they've lost their minds. No one is going to tear down the new ballroom unless they are clinically insane.
The Post writes, "In classic Trump fashion, the president is prusuing a reasonable idea in the most jarring manner possible. Privately, many alumni of the Biden and Obama White Houses acknowledge the long-overdue need for an event space like what Trump is creating. It is absurd that tents need to be erected on the South Lawn for state dinners, and VIPs are forced to use porta-potties."
They add, after describing the new facilities, "The next Democratic president will be happy to have this."
The Post blasts the Democratic mindset on this because all the rules and regulations the left wants to oversee this would ensure it would never be built. Other similar projects in D.C. take decades because environmental groups block everything, and local permitting groups take over.
In short, the thing everyone hates about Democrats is the thing that they use to block America from building anything. It's the same from shipbuilding in the Navy to doing anything else. Instead of pushing forward with good ideas, we're forced to grapple with people who believe in HOAs and red tape being the savior of the world.
What Democrats can't admit, on any level publicly, is that Trump is right. We need the ballroom to enhance the power of all administrations to conduct statecraft and foreign policy. All parties will use this space and benefit from it.
If the next Democrat decides to destroy the building, they will be hurting themselves, not Trump. Of course, this is what Democrats are running on right now, opposing Trump to such a degree that even things that are needed get opposed.
That's why you see so many people on social media claiming bizarre history about the East Wing. When you dig a little deeper, it turns out they're talking about the "East Room," or other rooms in the White House. The East Wing served its purpose. It's time for upgrades, and everyone will use them.
That's because the White House is not a dead historical site to be preserved; it's an actively used building needed for service right now. The things that need to be preserved are things like statues and homes of the American Founders - you know, the things that radical leftists are trying to tear down and deface in major cities across the country.
No one takes these primal screams from leftists seriously because, for the last decade, we've watched them destroy cities and attack the monuments that represent America nationwide. The East Wing served its purpose; it's documented by history, and now a new thing will rise in its place.
New history will be made. And we know that the new history will reflect Democrats using the new ballroom space and enjoying it, like everyone else.
