DANIEL VAUGHAN: Democrats Protect Violent Migrants Over American Citizens

Democrats like playing up liberal cities that set sanctuary laws. They've specifically tried to prevent ICE from reporting anyone in their jurisdictions, even though the federal government determines immigration laws. These sanctuary city laws have a cost, however. Public safety takes the hit, and Americans bear the brunt of it.

Boston is a perfect example. The Trump administration has blasted the city for keeping illegal immigrants in the city and refusing to help deport violent criminals. Boston's Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu declared, "We are not cooperating with those efforts that actually threaten the safety of everyone by causing widespread fear and having large-scale economic impact."

The problem is that Wu is either misinformed or actively helping criminals. That's because Boston, many of these sanctuary cities, have seen a spike in violent sex crimes. Assault, rape, and worse involving women and minors are increasing in Boston.

But it's not just that these crimes are increasing. Massachusetts, like many of these liberal states, has turned the law on its head to help illegal immigrants. "Massachusetts law prevents any law enforcement from holding someone based solely on their immigration status. ... That means sheriff's departments are unable to hold someone after they post bail, even if they are wanted by ICE. Sheriffs who want to cooperate with ICE say their hands are tied."

Law enforcement is frustrated while Democratic politicians cheer. Meanwhile, violent criminals here illegally post comically low bail and walk free. Boston doesn't want these illegals to get deported, so little else happens.

One example is a local investigation. It showed, "Take Jose Fernando-Perez, who was arrested by ICE in Framingham in February. According to an ICE press release, the Essex County Superior Court in Salem arraigned him on three counts of rape of a child by force and three counts of aggravated rape of a child in August, 2022. WBZ called the court and found that he posted a $7500 bail and was released with an order to stay in his home in October, 2022."

And that's one of the larger bail amounts. One violent criminal, also an illegal immigrant, didn't have to pay bail money at all to get out. "Juan Alberto Rodezno-Marin was arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court in March, 2023 for indecent assault and battery in a person over 15, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, masked armed robbery, and assault to rape. He was released on personal recognizance with a GPS monitoring device in December 2024 and arrested by ICE in January."

Republicans in Massachusetts are trying to change the law to force courts to hold these violent criminals until ICE can get to them. Democrats have shown no interest in removing these criminals from the streets. Nor is there any interest in at least increasing bail amounts to prevent violent criminals from walking freely.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey says she refuses to help Trump in mass deportations - but has tried to backtrack on Massachusetts being a sanctuary state.

The proof is in the pudding, however.

Healey, Wu, and the rest are trying to have it both ways. They want to claim they're resisting Trump. At the same time, illegal aliens and violent criminals are harming their citizens. And this isn't an economic argument or some other issue: we're talking violent crime where American lives are impacted forever.

If you're not willing to work extra hard to deport those not supposed to be here, with violent records, then what do you stand for? These are real cases where liberal authorities are either turning a blind eye to violent criminals or handcuffing police, prosecutors, and courts from responding.

It's a disgrace.

Public safety is a foundational job for the government. All state and local governments are tasked with this basic job, and the federal government comes in on top of that. In these cases, the state and local governments are actively working against the federal government, resulting in more victims.

It shouldn't be a controversial thing to allow state and local police forces to be able to prevent violent illegal aliens from walking freely. If progressives have decided to oppose that as their new red line, they oppose one of the cornerstones of any society.

If you're unwilling to protect your citizens, you're not worth anything. Sanctuary cities place the needs of illegal immigrants, including the violent ones, above the interests, demands, and needs of Americans.

When liberals look at these problems and declare Donald Trump the real issue, they tell on themselves. Trump is pointing out the blindingly obvious point that violent criminals are harming Americans. He's right on that point. We should get these people either behind bars permanently or out of the country.
