President Joe Biden signed an executive order in September allowing states to use Medicaid to pay for so-called "firearm safety" measures.

However, one conservative lawmaker is seeking to smack down Biden's agenda with a bill that would block the move.

Congressman condemns "unconstitutional gun control agenda"

According to Breitbart, Georgia Republican Rep. Andrew Clyde has introduced something called the Medicaid Funds Integrity Act.

Co-sponsored by over two dozen other Republican members of Congress, the bill bars Medicaid dollars from being used for matters involving firearms.

"Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars have no place furthering the Left’s unconstitutional gun control agenda," Clyde said in a statement to Breitbart.

"Rather than supporting law enforcement and empowering lawful gun owners, liberal states are determined to divert federal Medicaid dollars to fund false 'violence prevention' programs," he declared.

"As responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars and relentless defenders of the Constitution, Congress must step in to stop this flagrant misuse of federal funds aimed at infringing law-abiding Americans’ Second Amendment liberties," the Georgia representative went on to add.

Pro-gun groups says executive order is "a gross misuse of taxpayer dollars"

Breitbart noted that the Medicaid Fund Integrity Act has received backing from pro-gun groups, including Gun Owners of America and the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR).

Hunter King serves as political affairs director at NAGR, and he also issued a statement expressing support for Clyburn's legislation.

"Allowing federal funds to support gun violence prevention programs under Medicaid is a gross misuse of taxpayer dollars, aimed at advancing radical gun control agendas," he said.

King went on to point out that "Medicaid's purpose is to provide vital healthcare, not to fund programs that infringe on Second Amendment rights."

"Gun control has nothing to do with healthcare"

"Federal resources should be focused on their intended mission, not diverted to backdoor attempts at restricting lawful gun ownership," he concluded.

Meanwhile, Gun Owners of America director of federal affairs Aidan Johnston spoke up as well, saying, "Gun Owners of America is proud to support Rep. Clyde's efforts with this legislation."

"Programs like this are bound to be weaponized by anti-gun administrations, which is exactly what we saw over the last four years. Gun control has nothing to do with healthcare," Johnston added.
