Acting head of Social Security Administration abruptly resigns after DOGE scuffle

Now that President Donald Trump and Elon Musk are slashing excessive government waste, agency by agency, people in charge of those agencies are running for the hills.

That was evidenced again this week after the acting head of Social Security announced her resignation after getting into a scuffle with Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Fox News reported

The clash between Musk's DOGE unit and the Social Security head reportedly came as a result of disagreements over accessing certain sensitive government records.

The clash ultimately led to Michelle King's announcement on Monday of her abrupt departure from leading the agency.

What's going on?

President Trump had picked Frank Bisignano as his nominee to lead the agency, but his confirmation still hasn't happened.

Given King's abrupt departure, Trump chose Leland Dudek to lead the agency while he awaits Bisignano's Senate confirmation to go through.

Principal Deputy Press Secretary at the White House, Harrison Fields, released a statement saying that the Trump administration doesn't expect any major problems in getting his SSA pick confirmed in the coming weeks.

"In the meantime, the agency will be led by a career Social Security anti-fraud expert as the acting commissioner," Fields said.

He added, "President Trump is committed to appointing the best and most qualified individuals who are dedicated to working on behalf of the American people, not to appease the bureaucracy that has failed them for far too long."

Social media reacts

Users across social media weighed in on the news of King's departure, and many cheered it.

"Looks like she doesn’t wanna be around for what comes next," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Goodbye incompetent swamp creature, farewell. You will not be missed."

Hopefully more like King will run for the hills when they see Musk and DOGE coming. So far, it's a pretty good strategy as far as cleaning out the swamp.
