Fans of comedian and actress Ali Wong were troubled last week to learn that she and her husband are getting a divorce.

According to Us Weekly, Wong filed for divorce in Beverly Hills this past Friday from her husband, entrepreneur Justin Hakuta.

Actress troubled by mother's reaction

The celebrity cited "irreconcilable differences" as the basis for their split and sought custody of her two daughters, 8-year-old Mari and 6-year-old Nikki. Wong's filing asserted that she and Hakuta have been separated since April of 2022.

Us noted that Wong discussed their split during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, with the actress shedding light on how it impacted her personal life.

"I did not expect the announcement to be so widespread, but by far the hardest part about getting divorced was my mother’s reaction," Wong explained.

"I had told her before that I thought we might get divorced, and she was really upset," Wong continued. "She looked me in the eye and asked, 'Can you just wait until I die?' She was literally asking me to not live a life for myself."

Wong and Hakuta still see one another "a ton"

"But she’s 82, what do I expect?" Wong added. "She hasn’t had her period in 40 years. She’s in the sha-ha-hallows of senior citizenship. But it was still really f—king hard dealing with all her fear of the shame it would bring her."

However, Wong stressed that she and continue to see one another "a ton" despite their marriage having come to an end.

Us pointed out that Wong reiterated that message during a March appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" saying,  "We’re really close. We’re really good friends [and] when I say that, I really mean it."

The actress went on to insist that she would be "fine" if Hakuta met someone while they were traveling together but acknowledged that she hasn't "thought about that."

Hugh and Deborra-lee announce divorce

Wong is not the only Hollywood figure to announce the end of her marriage this year, as People magazine reported in September that Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-lee are also going their separate ways.

"We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth," the ex-couple said in a statement to the magazine.

"Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness," they declared.

"We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives," the statement concluded.
