Mitzi McCall, the actress and writer, has died at the age of 93.

The news of McCall's passing was announced by her family, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The family revealed that McCall died on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, at the Saint Joseph Medical Center. Further details about McCall's passing have not been revealed.

The family's statement, in part, read:

Mitzi McCall's life was a testament to the power of laughter, and her influence on the world of comedy will be remembered for years to come. Her legacy will live on through the countless laughs she inspired and the doors she opened for future generations.

Who was Mitzi McCall?

Variety describes McCall as a "trailblazing comedian, actress, and half of the comedy duo McCall and Brill."

From Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, McCall enjoyed a long career in acting and comedy, one that lasted for five decades. Deadline reports, "[McCall's] five-decade resume in entertainment included 11 films, 14 TV shows, and many animated series voice-overs."

The "Brill" in McCall and Brill is Charlie Brill, who was McCall's husband and partner in comedy.

Deadline recalls their well-known appearance, back in the 1960s, on The Ed Sullivan Show. Per the outlet:

McCall and Charlie Brill appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show on Feb. 9, 1964, better known as the U.S. television debut of The Beatles. Their act can be seen on the DVD of the Beatles’ appearances on the Sullivan show. They were interviewed in 2005 for Public Radio International’s “Big Break” episode of This American Life regarding their Beatles-Sullivan experience, including a dressing room encounter with John Lennon.

They described themselves as having "bombed," saying, "we sucked."

"Rest in peace my one and only love"

It would be a tall task to list even a part of McCall's career resume. She is probably most known for her work with her husband, but her work went far beyond this.

Deadline, for example, reports, "McCall made guest appearances on the TV shows Seinfeld, The Twilight Zone, Maude, Dharma & Greg and Chuck, as well as voice-over work for many cartoons. In 1971, she was the voice of Penny on The Flintstones spinoff The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show."

She was also a screenwriter, participating in such shows as Eight is Enough, One Day at a Time, Alf, and Charles in Charge.

McCall is survived by Brill, her husband. At the time of her passing, the two had been married for 64 years. They share a daughter together, and they have grandchildren.

Brill, regarding his wife's passing, said, "I lost my Mitzi last night. Rest in peace my one and only love…Rest in peace and laughter."
