AG Bondi seeking death penalty for accused CEO killer Luigi Mangione
The man who murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson could soon face the death penalty if U.S Attorney General Pam Bondi ultimately gets what she wants.
According to Breitbart, Bondi announced this week that she's directing federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, the man accused of gunning down Thompson.
The 26-year-old accused killer faces both state and federal murder charges as a result of Thompson's murder.
Bondi and her team of prosecutors have their best chance at securing a death penalty due to the federal charge that includes murder through the use of a firearm, which is death penalty-eligible.
What's going on?
AG Bondi released a statement announcing her intention to secure a death penalty convictino against Mangione.
"Luigi Mangione’s murder of Brian Thompson — an innocent man and father of two young children — was a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America," Bondi's statement read.
It added, "After careful consideration, I have directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case as we carry out President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and Make America Safe Again."
Mangione “is caught in a high-stakes game of tug-of-war between state and federal prosecutors, except the trophy is a young man’s life,” Friedman Agnifilo said in a statement, vowing to fight all charges against him.
The Associated Press noted:
Mangione, a 26-year-old Ivy League graduate from a prominent Maryland real estate family, faces separate federal and state murder charges after authorities say he gunned down Thompson, 50, outside a Manhattan hotel on Dec. 4 as the executive arrived for UnitedHealthcare’s annual investor conference.
The Department of Justice released a statement on its official X account announcing the news.
