It's been a while since New York Attorney General Letitia James has been in the headlines, but that changed this week after news broke of a lawsuit she's filed against the Trump administration.

As part of a larger coalition of blue states, AG James is suing President Donald Trump's administration over claims that its intimidating health care providers into stopping gender affirming care.

AG James is reportedly leading a coalition of 15 other states and the District of Columbia in its legal pursuit against the Trump administration, claiming the administration is "attacking" access to gender affirming care for "transgender and non-binary youth."

"The attorneys general argue that the administration is unlawfully seeking to impose a nationwide ban on gender-affirming care by threatening providers with baseless criminal charges and investigations," a statement from James' website read.

What's going on?

James, at the forefront of the multi-state lawsuit, claimed that the Trump administration is running a "harassment campaign" against health care providers regarding gender affirming care, even in states where it's still legal, such as New York.

"The federal government is running a cruel and targeted harassment campaign against providers who offer lawful, lifesaving care to children," James was quoted as saying in the statement.

She added, "This administration is ruthlessly targeting young people who already face immense barriers just to be seen and heard, and are putting countless lives at risk in the process. In New York and nationwide, we will never stop fighting for the dignity, safety, and basic rights of the transgender community."

Newsmax noted:

Trump's administration announced in July that it was sending subpoenas to providers and focusing on investigating them for fraud. It later boasted in a news release that hospitals are halting treatments.

The lawsuit comes in the wake of Trump signing an Executive Order on Day One in office proclaiming that there are only two sexes -- male and female.

The AG's statement added:

A second executive order signed days later expanded the administration’s focus on eliminating gender-affirming care for youth and young adults, redefining everyone under the age of 19 as “children,” even though, in states like New York, 18-year-olds are legal adults with full medical autonomy.

Saving lives

The Trump administration made the moves to crack down on such care as a life-saving measure, arguing that many of those who receive such care eventually end up regretting it, and dire consequences -- sometimes suicide -- are often the result.

According to polls, roughly half of Americans support Trump's efforts in ending gender affirming care.

AG Pam Bondi has also intervened, saying earlier this year, "Under my leadership, the Department of Justice will bring these practices to an end."

Only time will tell what comes of James' lawsuit.
