AG Pam Bondi puts sanctuary cities on notice

Pam Bondi, the new attorney general of the United States, has just put so-called sanctuary cities on notice.

The Daily Mail reports that Bondi has essentially threatened to take legal action against any local officials who refuse to cooperate with the Trump administration's efforts to remove illegal immigrants from America.

She did so, according to the outlet, during a recent appearance on the Fox News Channel's Hannity.

As we will see, Bondi is already doing more than just making threats.

"Let me be very clear"

During her appearance on the Fox News Channel, Bondi spoke about how she is handling the "sanctuary" city problem.

The Daily Mail reports:

When asked by Hannity about whether the sanctuary city and states were aiding and abetting the illegal migrants, the AG didn't pass up a moment to make the new Trump directives crystal clear.

The outlet goes on to report Bondi as saying, "What they're doing is they are choosing illegal aliens over the safety and security of their own citizens and the men and women of law enforcement who are out there trying to protect their citizens."

"And let me be very clear, if you don't comply with federal law, you're going to be next," she added.

Presumably, Bondi was given notice to officials in California, New York, Connecticut, and elsewhere, who have made it clear that they plan on continuing to provide sanctuary for illegal immigrants.

She's already cut them off

Bondi was just sworn in as attorney general last week, but she has already made several big moves - including cutting off federal funding for those cities that provide sanctuary for illegal immigrants.

She has a signed a memo, stating:

[T]he Department of Justice will ensure that, consistent with law, ‘sanctuary jurisdictions’ do not receive access to Federal funds from the Department. Consistent with applicable statutes, regulations, court orders, and terms, the Department of Justice shall pause the distribution of all funds until a review has been completed, terminate any agreements that are in violation of law or are the source of waste, fraud, or abuse, and initiate clawback or recoupment procedures, where appropriate.”

The memo has placed a 60-day pause on the handing out of these funds, while the situation is investigated.

Bondi is expected to get a report on the situation within 45 days.

We'll have to see how this situation plays out, but the Trump administration has made it perfectly clear that it is not going to allow "sanctuary" states and cities to continue violating U.S. law.
