AG Pam Bondi warns Rep. Jasmine Crockett over anti-Musk rhetoric
Joining forces with the Trump administration to cut waste and downsize the federal government is something that has endeared tech mogul Elon Musk to millions, but the visceral reactions of some high-profile Democrats to his high-profile role have taken a rather dark turn.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is among those exhibiting extreme hostility toward Musk, suggesting that he needs to be “taken down,” and her words prompted Attorney General Pam Bondi to warn the lawmaker to “tread very carefully,” as Fox News reports.
Crockett takes aim
It was last week during a livestreamed event for the “#TeslaTakedown” protest movement that Crockett made her hopes for Musk perfectly clear.
“On March 29, it's my birthday,” Crockett told those on the call, referencing the protest group's designated “Global Day of Action.”
The outspoken congresswoman continued, “All I want to see happen on my birthday is for Elon to be taken down. I have learned, as I serve on the DOGE Oversight committee, that there is only one language that the people that are in charge understand right now, and that language is money.”
Though the lawmaker made an attempt to clarify the “nonviolent” nature of her exhortations by stating, “We know that we are peaceful, loving people,” many of those who share her animus toward Musk have launched a campaign of destruction at Tesla dealerships, charging stations, and even privately owned vehicles across the country.
Bondi weighs in
Crockett's rhetoric did not escape Bondi's notice, and the attorney general wasted no time in issuing strong words of caution against any further escalation.
“She is an elected public official, so she needs to treat very carefully because nothing will happen to Elon Musk, and we are going to fight to protect all the Tesla owners throughout this country,” Bondi said during an appearance on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures.
Bondi's words echoed those included in a March 20 Justice Department press release in which the AG announced charges against three individuals accused of using Molotov cocktails to destroy Tesla cars and charging stations in Oregon, Colorado, and South Carolina, respectively.
“The days of committing crimes without consequence have ended. Let this be a warning: if you join this wave of domestic terrorism against Tesla properties, the Department of Justice will put you behind bars,” Bondi pledged.
Trump's loyalty endures
Since signing on to help the administration root out billions of dollars in waste, fraud, and abuse through the Department of Government Efficiency, Musk has, as Trump himself has asserted, been “paying a price” in terms of his own business interests.
“This is something that's really not good for him, and yet he's doing it,” Trump stated, as Fox Business notes, adding that the man he considers “a real patriot” has “opened a lot of eyes” in the process.
Lamenting the actions of those behind the destructive protests and boycotts directed at Tesla, Trump said, “They're harming a great American company.”
Displaying the same resolve as his attorney general when it comes to seeking justice on Musk's behalf, Trump declared, “Let me tell you, you do it to Tesla, you do it to any company, we're going to catch you, and...you're going to go through hell,” and that is a position with which legions of Americans assuredly agree.
