A powerful windstorm and dry conditions fueled three major wildfires in Los Angeles Tuesday, turning residential neighborhoods into scenes of Biblical devastation - with at least two deaths reported.

The dangerously high winds left President Biden's airplane, Air Force One, stranded at LAX airport as thousands fled residential communities ravaged by the inferno, Deadline reported.

Biden grounded by windstorm

The president landed in LA on Monday and had planned to travel to the East Coachella Valley to commemorate two new national monuments before departing Tuesday afternoon.

But the strongest Santa Ana windstorm in more than a decade whipped up a terrifying blaze Tuesday, disrupting Biden's plans and leaving his plane grounded.

Due to the extreme conditions, Biden's team decided to wait a day before taking off from LAX, Deadline reported.

First deaths in LA blaze

The Southern California gusts reached 100 mph overnight, forcing fire crews battling the Pacific Palisades fire to ground their aircraft around 8 p.m.

The fire engulfed nearly 3,000 acres within hours of sparking Tuesday morning, as thousands including Hollywood stars scrambled to evacuate.

Officials announced Wednesday that at least two people had died in the Eaton Fire, which broke out in the hills above Altadena near Eaton Canyon on Tuesday night.

A third blaze, the Hurst Fire, erupted in Sylmar, placing thousands of Southern Californians at risk. As of Wednesday morning, the Southern California fires were 0% contained.

“We are absolutely not out of danger yet,” L.A. City Fire Chief Kristin Crowley added. “Within the city of Los Angeles, with these two major brush fires, our department has responded to 3,624 9-1-1 calls for service. And to put that in perspective, our average is just under 1,500 calls in a 24-hour period.”

Biden's plans derailed

It's now expected that Biden will be back in the nation's capital late Wednesday, just in time for Jimmy Carter's state funeral on January 9.

Biden was originally going to speak in Thermal, California on Tuesday to establish the Chuckwalla National Monument, near Joshua Tree National Park, before the high winds dashed the trip. The White House then said Biden would speak in Los Angeles, but Mother Nature had other plans.

Instead, the White House said Biden will give a speech next week at the White House establishing the Chuckwalla National Monument and Sáttítla Highlands National Monument.

The two monuments will shelter 848,000 acres of land, capping Biden's conservation efforts, which also saw him announce a sweeping ban on offshore drilling this week.
