Alaska senator shreds Biden's energy orders
A U.S. senator from Alaska recently decided to publicly tear up dozens of energy orders that came from the administration of former President Joe Biden.
U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK), according to Fox News, did so on Thursday.
As we will see, not all Senators agree with Sullivan on this one. In fact, not even all Republican Senators agree.
Sullivan, though, has made it clear that he is with President Donald Trump, who, suffice it to say, is going in a completely different direction from Biden, when it comes to energy.
Here's what's going on:
The big point that Sullivan was trying to make, when tearing up Biden's energy orders, is that this Biden-era policy hurt America and Alaska by severely limiting their energy capabilities.
Sullivan then tried to contrast the Biden administration's approach to the Trump administration's approach, which, in contrast, has expanded the United States' energy capabilities.
Sullivan, in particular, called attention to the Trump administration's openness to building an 800-mile LNG pipeline. Trump made this openness clear in his Joint Address to Congress.
Fox explains:
Sullivan described the Trump administration’s openness to building an 800-mile LNG pipeline to power the U.S. and trade with Asia. The pipeline would run from Prudhoe Bay – on the Arctic Ocean – to the Kenai Peninsula near Homer. Currently, essentially the only way to transport liquefied natural gas on the North Slope is via the AK-11 Dalton Highway of "Ice Road Trucker" fame, which is considered very inefficient and dangerous.
It is unclear, at this moment, where the pipeline situation stands.
There's more:
While Sullivan tore up Biden's energy orders, Republicans in Congress are currently pushing to have many of these orders removed.
One would think that this would not be that difficult of a task, considering that Republicans control the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives. But, some congressional Republicans are opposing the effort.
In the Senate, for example, U.S. Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), John Curtis (R-UT), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Jerry Moran (R-KS) recently wrote a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) asking him to essentially go easy on Biden's orders.
The letter, in part, reads:
Many American companies have made substantial investments in domestic energy production and infrastructure based on the current energy tax framework. A wholesale repeal, or the termination of certain individual credits, would create uncertainty, jeopardizing capital allocation, long-term project planning, and job creation in the energy sector and across our broader economy.
These four Republican senators have been joined by 21 Republican House members. Whether this will be enough to thwart efforts to remove Biden's green energy initiatives remains unclear.
