Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has devoted significant resources to prosecuting former President Donald Trump over an alleged payoff to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

Yet in a move that may come as a surprise to conservatives, this week saw Bragg take a break from targeting Trump to go after an accused murderer.

Man accused of fatally beating elderly store worker

A press release put out by Bragg's office on Thursday alleged that Carlos Ramirez beat 63-year-old Bernardo Gonzalez Perez to death earlier this month.

"As alleged, Carlos Ramirez beat a hard working grocery store worker to death. Mr. Perez’s passing has left his family distraught and heartbroken and I share in the significant pain they are currently experiencing," Bragg declared.

"All store employees deserve to be safe on the job. I want them to know that we are treating this tragedy with the utmost seriousness and will pursue accountability to the full extent of the law," the prosecutor added.

While Bragg boasted of having indicted the accused murder, critics complain that he also has a history of going after those who defended themselves.

Bragg indicted store clerk who had been attacked

As the New York Post reported, Bragg charged store clerk Jose Alba with murder last summer after he stabbed a man who attacked him.

Charges were eventually dropped following a public outcry, but not before Alba spent time at New York City's notorious jail on Rikers Island.

What's more, Bragg refused to lay charges against the attacker's girlfriend despite video footage showing her drawing a knife and stabbing Alba.

New York Post editorial board says Bragg is on "Team Crime"

Further outrage followed this year when Bragg charged former Marine Daniel Perry with manslaughter over the death of Brad Neely.

Perry was seen restraining Neely on a New York City subway after witnesses say he grew belligerent and began threatening other passengers.

According to the New York Post, Neely was arrested on multiple occasions, such as in November of 2021 when he was accused of punching a 67-year-old woman in the face. Meanwhile, the Daily News pointed to a 2015 incident in which Neely was arrested for attempting to drag away a 7-year-old girl.

That led the New York Post editorial board to publish an article which accused the Manhattan district attorney of being on "Team Crime."
