An ex-Trump advisor says the FBI raided his home for intimidation

The attacks on allies of former President Donald Trump continue as the Department of Justice once again erodes the trust the American people have in the justice system.

In this case, the invasion took the form of yet another FBI raid, this time on the home of someone who took part in the 2016 presidential election, and was close to the former president.

This week, the FBI allegedly raided the home of a former adviser to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Virginia, according to The New York Post.

The Rappahannock News reports that Dimitri Simes, whose name appeared more than 130 times in the 2019 report on Russian influence in the presidential election by former special counsel Robert Mueller, was informed of Tuesday's search, as he was out of the country.

The Response

In addition to being out of the country, Simes stated that he is not aware of being the subject of any investigation by law enforcement.

The policy expert, who was born in Russia, provided advice to Trump's campaign in 2016.

The raid “clearly is an attempt to intimidate, not only somebody from Russia, but just anyone who goes against official policies and particularly against the deep state,” he later told the Russian government-owned Sputnik News.

“My suspicion is that instead of trying to get me to come to the United States and to interrogate me — or even to arrest me — their real purpose is to make sure that I would not come back,” said Simes, who hasn’t been in the U.S. since October 2022

More of Simes Take

Simes also contrasted the raid on his house in Huntly, which is located around an hour outside of Washington, DC, to the crackdowns that law enforcement departments have carried out against Trump and other political personalities.

The campaign staffer related the search on his home to that of the former president and current Republican presidential nominee, and other allies, including Rudy Giuliani, who formerly served as mayor of New York City.

“A number of prominent Americans were subjected to searches or even put in jail, or made bankrupt,” he said.

“So, this is the way American law enforcement is working today? If somebody goes against the political mainstream, in particular against the Biden administration, the punishment may be very swift.”

Biden Implicated

Dimitri Simes Jr., his son, has made it clear that he believes his father and others who advocate for better ties between the United States and Russia are being targeted by the Biden administration.

“The Biden regime is terrified of being called out over Ukraine and Israel,” the younger Simes posted on X Friday.

He also alleged that “elements of [President Biden’s] regime are trying to disrupt any possibility for de-escalation with Russia and plunge America into World War III.”

Simes emigrated to the U.S. from the former Soviet Union in the 1970s.
