Army base commander suspended amid missing Trump, Vance, Hegseth photos
During Donald Trump's first term in office, leaks, insubordination, and even internal sabotage arguably derailed the president's ability to pursue much of his declared agenda.
However, as evidenced by recent actions taken by the Defense Department in reaction to an Army base garrison commander's refusal to display official photos of top figures in the current administration acts of defiant resistance from within the federal government will no longer be tolerated, as Fox News reports.
Ramirez dismissed
Col. Sheyla Baez Ramirez, most recently serving as garrison commander of Fort McCoy in Wisconsin, was relieved of her duties following a probe launched by the Defense Department, as the New York Post reports.
According to the outlet, the base failed to install photos of President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, or Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on a wall meant to highlight the chain of command.
Ramirez's suspension came in the wake of an announcement that the Pentagon had launched a probe into the fact that a wall typically used for displaying photos of the leaders sitting atop the chain of command was characterized by empty frames rather than the images of those who have filled key roles in the new administration.
In a statement released by the U.S. Army Reserve Command, it was revealed that the “suspension is not related to any misconduct.”
“We have no further details to provide at this time while this matter is under review,” the statement continued.
Hegseth confirms decision
On Sunday, Hegseth himself appeared to confirm the action taken against Ramirez reposting an X message that read, “Commander of Fort McCoy, whose base chain-of-command board was missing photos of Trump, Vance and Hegseth, has been SUSPENDED.”
It was not long before it was made clear to the public that the incomplete photo display situation had been remedied.
The Defense Department's own rapid response team took to X to declare, “Regarding the Ft. McCoy Chain of Command wall controversy...WE FIXED IT!” with the message also showing a before-and-after comparison of the photo display.
The rapid response team's message also mentioned that “an investigation has begun to figure out exactly what happened.”
Shakeups continue
Ramirez's suspension comes close on the heels of the recent dismissal of the base commander for the Pituffik Space Force Base located in Greenland, Col. Susannah Meyers, a decision on which CBS News reported.
In the wake of a visit from Vance, Meyers sent an email to base personnel declaring that “the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base” and lamenting what she assumed was the negative impact of his statements.
As a result of Meyers' comments, the administration lost “confidence in her abililty to lead” and relieved her of her command, yet another indication of the Trump team's unwillingness to have its messaging or priorities actively undermined from within.
