A new article reveals why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are likely not as close to former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as they have claimed to be.

The article comes from Britt Hawes of The List.

Hawes begins by highlighting some similarities between the two couples. And, then, Hawes recalls how the two couples have been seen in public together, particularly before 2020.

In the remainder of the article, however, Hawes highlights "signs" that "Harry and Meghan aren't as close to the Obamas as they claim to be."

New details from Obama's book tour meetup with Markle

For one of these "signs," Hawes writes that Michelle "Obama doesn't like Meghan's 'attitude' towards the royal family."

Here, Hawes focuses on the December 2018 book event at which Markle first met the former first lady. The event, as Hawes writes, "has been widely lauded as the moment their friendship began."

Hawes, however, goes on to highlight new details about this meetup from Tom Bower's book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windors.

Per Hawes:

Bower claimed that Michelle felt put off by Meghan's attitude towards Queen Elizabeth and the other members of the royal family. Michelle apparently wasn't shy about telling Markle how she really felt about her.

Hawes also points to Michelle Obama's response to Harry and Meghan's "Oprah" interview, which seems to be a rebuke of Markle's attitude toward the Royal Family. The former first lady said, "Public service is a bright, white, hot spotlight. None of this is about us in public service — it's about the people that we serve."

Sign number two

For the second sign that the relationship between Harry and Meghan and the Obamas is not what the former have claimed it to be, Hawes points to Harry and Meghan's absence from Obama's 60th birthday party.

Hawes writes:

Huge stars like George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, and more were among those who made the shortened list, according to the Daily Mail. But Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were nowhere in sight.

Here, Hawes quotes Angela Lavin as revealing that Harry and Meghan did not even manage to make Obama's original guest list.

Hawes further writes:

Royal expert Phil Dampier explained that the Sussexes not receiving an invite was a major snub . . .He said the decision was likely a political move by the Obamas. Neither wanted to take sides in the ongoing fight between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family.

From Hawes' article, it does seem safe to conclude that Harry and Meghan are not as close to the Obamas as they have claimed to be.
