Ashley Biden is looking toward "new beginnings" after accusing her husband of infidelity on Instagram and filing for divorce.

In court records, Biden - who is the only child of Joe Biden and his second wife Jill - said she is seeking spousal support from her husband, Howard Krein.

Ashley Biden's turbulent life

The split marks the latest chapter in the Biden family's turbulent history, which has been defined by messy romance, financial scandals, drug abuse and various personal tragedies.

In her diary, which was infamously stolen, Ashley described taking "showers with dad" and dealing with sexual compulsions.

In August, Ashley used her Instagram to expose her husband walking at night with another woman.

The picture was captioned, "My husband and his girlfriend holding hands" with a heart emoji and a clip of the song "Another" by the Notorious B.I.G., featuring Lil Kim.

Biden also shared an Instagram story, which she later deleted, that showed her walking through a park as she gave a thumbs-up to the song "Freedom" by Beyoncé.

Infidelity on both sides?

Ashley's half-brother Beau, who died of brain cancer in 2015, introduced her to Krein two years before they wed in an interfaith ceremony at the Catholic church where Ashley was baptized.

Ashley's father, Joe Biden, praised Krein at the time, saying, “This is the right guy. And he’s getting a helluva woman.”

Despite Krein's alleged infidelity, documents filed by Biden's attorney, Charles Meyer, indicate she is seeking a no-fault divorce. According to Biden's diary, she may have been unfaithful as well.

"'Here I am talking about another man when I am married! It all feels strange," she wrote in February 2019.

"Started hanging out with a new guy… It's been refreshing to be able to kiss another man."

Seeking spousal support

The social worker, who has no kids, is seeking spousal support from Krein while the divorce proceeds, and she wants to remain a beneficiary on his life and health insurance policies.

Ashley says she "lacks sufficient property to provide for her reasonable needs" and that she is "unable to sustain herself through appropriate employment in accordance with the standard of living established during the marriage."

Her estranged husband is a plastic surgeon and otolaryngologist at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and a chief medical officer at StartUp Health, a venture capital and health technology firm. Krein's work there fell under scrutiny as his father-in-law's administration steered the nation's COVID response.

Krein has reportedly hired reality star Kate Gosselin's divorce lawyer, Cheryl L. Young, who specializes in representing "high net-worth professionals."

Healing?

In an Instagram message, 44-year-old Ashley Biden said she is finding peace after a summer full of emotional challenges.

"August 2025. The Summer of 2025 was one of the hardest summers of my life. I have been preparing for the fall (my fav season) and now ready for the RISE," she wrote.

"Grateful for the support of friends and family. Grateful that I took the time/space to grieve, process, and heal."
