Hip-hop fans were shocked this week to learn that rap star Rich Homie Quan passed away suddenly at the age of 34.

According to the Daily Caller, Quan died at his home on Thursday. While the Fulton County morgue confirmed his passing, the cause of Quan's death has yet to be revealed.

Quan mourned by fellow artists

Born in Atlanta as Dequantes Lamar, the platinum seller first rose to prominence just over a decade ago with his first hit single titled "Type of Way."

Other popular songs released by Quan included "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)" and "Ride Out." What's more, Quan also collaborated with fellow rapper Young Thug on the Cash Money Records project "Rich Gang."

News of his death was met with sadness from other recording artist, including Louisiana-based rapper Boosie BadAzz, who wrote in a post on X, "JUST TALKED TO YOU BRA. Never go forget yo smile n the way talked n of course yo music."

Author Benny D. Greenheart spoke up as well, recalling how Quan had previously spoken about dealing with substance abuse.

Rapper reportedly had addiction struggles

"Rich Homie Quan struggled with addiction [and] his decline in the industry [and] he was very open about it," the writer stated. "The grind of the industry can break anybody. Rest In Perfection."

The Daily Caller noted how Quan is far from being the only rapper to die in recent months, as it reported in June that Jacksonville, Florida recording artist Julio Foolio was fatally shot during a visit to Tampa.

A statement put out by the rapper's attorney stated that he "had been in Tampa to celebrate his birthday over the weekend."

Foolio alleged to have been a gang member

"Law enforcement reports indicate that he initially stayed at an Airbnb but was asked to leave due to exceeding occupancy limits," the statement continued.

"He subsequently relocated to the Holiday Inn, where he was involved in an incident in the hotel parking lot and reportedly ambushed," the lawyer explained.

First Coast News pointed out that Foolio was alleged to be a member of the Jacksonville, Florida-based gang KTA, which has long been involved in a feud with the ATK gang.

The station recalled how Foolio's cousin, Zion Brown, was fatally shot at a Florida restaurant in 2018 as he and others attended a birthday party.
