Earlier this year, First Lady Melania Trump threatened to file suit against Author Michael Wolff over claims he made about her related to Jeffrey Epstein.

At the time, Melania Trump vowed to take him to the cleaners over the statements he made about her and the deceased, convicted sex offender. However, according to Fox News, Wolff filed a lawsuit against the first lady this week instead.

The report noted that Wolff filed a lawsuit against Melania Trump as he felt "threatened" by her vow to sue him over the statements she demanded be retracted.

The statements in question were originally published by The Daily Beast. The outlet later quickly removed the statements made by Wolff and issued an apology for publishing the statements, which they said did not meet its editorial standards.

What's going on?

The TDS-ridden author is convinced that Melania and President Donald Trump use legal threats to silence their critics and foes.

Fox News noted:

Wolff had argued that the first couple seeks to punish foes by trying "to silence their speech, to intimidate their critics generally, and to extract unjustified payments and North Korean-style confessions and apologies," through legal action.

The outlet added:

Wolff initially made the allegations in an interview with Daily Beast chief content officer Joanna Coles for The Daily Beast Podcast. They were discussing Trump’s alleged connections with Epstein, the disgraced sex criminal financier who died in 2019. His death, officially ruled a suicide, continues to be a subject of fierce debate.

Wolff, in his lawsuit, argued that Melania Trump's threats "are designed to create a climate of fear in the nation so that people cannot freely or confidently exercise their First Amendment rights."

Notably, the lawsuit was filed by Wolff on the deadline that the first lady gave him to retract the statements he made.

"[Melania] was very involved in this Epstein relationship. There is this model thing, and she’s introduced by a model agent, both of whom Trump and Epstein are involved with. She’s introduced to Trump that way, Epstein knows her well," Wolff said in his original statement that prompted legal action by the first lady.

The first lady responds

Nicholas Clemens, a spokesperson for the Office of the First Lady, released a statement on the unfolding situation.

"First Lady Melania Trump is proud to continue standing up to those who spread malicious and defamatory falsehoods as they desperately try to get undeserved attention and money from their unlawful conduct," the statement read.

Wolff's stated goal, as he said in several social media posts, is to get the Trumps "under oath" so that they're forced to answer questions about Epstein.

Only time will tell if Wolff gets his way, but one shouldn't hold their breath in anticipation of that happening.
