Barack Obama provided technical advice to filmmaker Sam Esmail
Former President Barack Obama has remained active since leaving the White House almost seven years ago, and there are growing signs that he is ready to stage a takeover in Hollywood.
Evidence of that emerged this month with the release of "Leave the World Behind," a film which the former president helped produce.
Obama provided technical advice based on his time in the White House
Starring Ethan Hawke, Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, and Kevin Bacon, "Leave the World Behind" was released by Netflix, a company in which Mr. Obama and his wife are partners.
The movie is based on a novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam and centers around a nationwide blackout that plunges the country into chaos.
Holla! magazine noted how in addition to his role as a producer, Obama also provided technical advice based on his experience gained from serving in the White House.
"I am writing what I think is fiction, for the most part, I’m trying to keep it as true to life as possible, but I’m exaggerating and dramatizing," writer and director Sam Esmail was quoted as saying in an article published on Wednesday.
Film director says Obama "is a big movie lover"
"And to hear an ex-president say you’re off by a few details…I thought I was off by a lot! The fact that he said that scared the f--k out of me," Esmail explained.
Esmail went on to recall how the former president "had a lot [of] notes about the characters and the empathy we would have for them."
"I have to say he is a big movie lover, and he wasn’t just giving notes about things that were from his background," the director said of Obama before adding, "He was giving notes as a fan of the book, and he wanted to see a really good film."
Yet Obama hasn't completely abandoned politics for filmmaking, a fact which became obvious this month when he shot a campaign ad alongside President Joe Biden.

What's more, some have suggested that former First Lady Michelle Obama may be poised to replace Biden on the Democratic ballot next year.
They include Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, who said during an appearance on "Fox & Friends" last month that there is "a very real chance" Democrats will "jettison Joe Biden and parachute in Michelle Obama."
However, the former first lady has long denied having any interest in returning to politics, telling late-night comedy host Jimmy Fallon earlier this year that it is "a relief" to not be in the White House.
