If egomaniac Barack Obama can be humbled by anyone on planet Earth, it's his even more narcissistic wife.

The former president admitted that Michelle Obama is his "better half" in a loving note to the former first Lady on her 60th birthday.

"This is what 60 looks like. Happy birthday to my better half — who happens to be one of the funniest, smartest, most beautiful people I know. @MichelleObama, you make every day better. I can't wait to see what this new decade brings you," he wrote on X.

Obama's birthday message

The post included a photo of Michelle Obama at what appears to be the couple's palatial seaside estate in Martha's Vineyard.

While the Obamas are often idealized by their fans, they have been open about the challenges they have endured throughout their marriage of more than 30 years.

The couple faced some unpleasant media coverage last year when a letter from Barack Obama's youth surfaced in which he fantasized about romantic encounters with men.

In a shocking interview in 2022, Michelle said that she "couldn't stand" her husband for an entire decade. Obama said she resented an imbalance in parental duties while her husband was starting out in politics.

Michelle has also publicly encouraged her daughters not to rush into getting married, which may hint at some remorse on her part.

Semi-retired Obamas stay political

Meanwhile, Barack said that his marriage improved once the stress of being president was gone.

“So I did not fully appreciate — I think as engaged of a father as I was — the degree of stress and tension for her, knowing not just that me and Michelle were under scrutiny and in this strange environment, but that we were raising our daughters in a kind of situation that just wasn’t normal,” he said.

“Now that they’re doing good, she is a little more forgiving of all my flaws,” Obama added.

The couple is now enjoying a quiet and rich life in retirement as movie producers, podcasters, and authors.

But they remain politically engaged, largely because of the ongoing threat Donald Trump poses to the liberal ruling class to which they now belong.
