The announcement
“The Secretary of State determined and provided detailed justification to Congress that an emergency exists that requires the immediate sale to the Government of Israel of the above defense articles and services in the national security interests of the United States, thereby waiving the Congressional review requirements under Section 36(b) of the Arms Export Control Act, as amended,” the DSCA wrote in a press release on Saturday.
“This will be a sale from U.S. Army inventory. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale," it added.
The Biden administration approves an emergency arms sale of about 14,000 tanks shells to Israel, according to the State Department, in a move that bypasses the standard congressional approval process. https://t.co/pEc8znPw5a

The amount
"The U.S. approved $106 million in emergency arms sales to Israel amid widespread criticism from human rights groups, U.N. officials and many countries for vetoing a U.N. Security Council resolution for a cease-fire in Gaza," NBC News reported.
"The Israel Defense Forces estimates 1,200 people were killed in the Hamas attack, with around 140 people still held captive in Gaza," it later stated.

The details
"Hamas militants launched a coordinated series of terrorist attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, leading to the country declaring war on the group," WND reported.
"Congress has, so far, been unable to pass an aid package to Israel amid disputes between Democrats and Republicans as to its contents and budgetary offsets, but the Biden administration invoked an emergency provision of the Arms Export Control Act to sell 13,981 120mm tank shells to Israel without Congressional authorization, according to the DSCA," it noted.
The move comes as tensions grow in the U.S. among those supporting Israel's war efforts and pro-Palestinian protesters pushing for a cease-fire.
Lawmakers have largely supported Israel's efforts at self-defense, with some Democrats opposing the support and calling for an end to the military operations.
The battle is far from over but at least one military funding program has now moved forward with support from the Biden administration.
