Biden aide says staff justified 'undemocratic' actions because of 'threat' posed by Trump

Because they believed Donald Trump was an "existential threat" to democracy, staff of then-President Joe Biden felt justified in acting in ways they now admit were "undemocratic" to try to stop him, according to journalist and author Alex Thompson.

“If you believe — and I think a lot of these people do sincerely believe — that Donald Trump was and is an existential threat to democracy, you can rationalize anything, including sometimes doing undemocratic things,” Thompson said.

Thompson said that another aide told him that if Biden could just get re-elected, he could mostly disappear for four years while the aides ran things.

“He’d only have to show proof of life every once in a while,” Thompson said the aide told him. “His aides could pick up the slack.”

Voting for "aides"

“When you’re voting for president, you’re voting for the aides around him,” the aide said.

Thompson spoke to many of Biden's White House staff for the book "Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again," which was released on May 20.

While behind the scenes staff knew Biden was in decline and was not fully aware of all that his administration was doing, they felt they were doing a good job advancing the Democrat agenda and deserved for Biden to have a second term.

Voters felt the opposite and signaled they would choose the four-times-indicted and extremely controversial Donald Trump over more obfuscation and bumbling from Biden and his administration.

Furthermore, voters also rejected then-Vice President Kamala Harris as a replacement for Biden, leaving the Democrats out of power.

For the best

Turns out it was definitely for the best that Biden stepped back from the campaign.

If he had won, the country would now be dealing with a president with a very serious cancer diagnosis on top of everything else.

It seems unlikely that Biden will live another four years with a stage 5 prostate cancer diagnosis, and all of his remaining energy will be going to fight the cancer while he tries to beat it.

America dodged a bullet, and maybe Democrats will think twice before trying to thwart democracy in order to keep Trump from supposedly threatening it.

Unfortunately, however, they have a long history of doing so and are likely to continue every chance they get.
