Biden facing 'renewed scrutiny' for his treatment of Gold Star families
Fox News reports that President Joe Biden is facing "renewed scrutiny" for his past treatment of Gold Star families.
Gold Star families, of course, are those families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.
The U.S. Army's website explains:
This August is the second anniversary of Biden's botched withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.
During that withdrawal, 13 U.S. service members were killed as a result of suicide bombings. If this was not bad enough, Biden left behind U.S. citizens and allies and Taliban insurgents retook control of the country.
This week, family members of the 13 U.S. service members participated in a congressional forum hosted by U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA).
It was during this forum that these family members renewed their criticism of Biden and his administration for its mishandling of the Afghanistan withdrawal.
It's not the same, Joe!
During the hearing, one family member, in particular, criticized Biden for trying to compare their situation to the death of his son, Beau Biden, from brain cancer.
Cheryl Rex - the mother of Marine Lance Cpl. Dylan Merola - revealed that, after her son's death, Biden said to her, "My wife, Jill, and I know how you feel. We lost our son as well and brought him home in a flag-draped coffin."
Rex said that, after Biden said this to her, her "heart started beating faster" and she "started shaking" because she knew that Biden's "son died from cancer" and that Joe and Jill Biden "were able to be by his side."
The cover-up continues
Rex, during her statement, went on to reveal that, since this initial encounter with Biden, she never had any other correspondence with Biden and, moreover, Biden has never "honored" her son.
Rex also made it very clear that she believes that the "failures and poor planning" of the Biden administration led to her son's death.
Rex was one of many other Gold Star family members to express frustration and even anger with Biden and his administration over the botch Afghanistan withdrawal. Some even accused Biden of lying to them about how their loved ones died.
In response, the Biden administration released a statement, claiming:
We mourn with them, we remember their loved ones, and we will continue to support these Gold Star families. We are enormously proud of the men and women of our military, our diplomats and the intel community who conducted that withdrawal – they performed bravely and helped evacuate more than 120,000 people in one of the largest airlifts in history. But more broadly, the President made the tough decision to end the 20-year war in Afghanistan because he was not going to send another generation of troops to fight and die in a conflict that had no end in sight.
