Biden joins Truth Social

In an apparent attempt to get under Donald Trump's skin, the Biden campaign has joined the social media app owned by Trump, Truth Social.

Biden - who has frequently used divisive rhetoric to attack Trump and his supporters as "extreme" and threatening to American democracy - joked that "converts" to Biden's movement are "welcome."

"Well. Let’s see how this goes. Converts welcome!' the first post read.

Biden joins Truth Social

The post received 2,500 likes and about 7,500 replies - an example of what Twitter users call a "ratio" reflecting disapproval of a post.

The account's profile picture features a black and white image of Biden with glowing red eyes - a reference to the "Dark Brandon" meme that Biden supporters created to lend an edgy image to the doddering commander-in-chief. Biden's team dismissed the move as little more than a joke.

"We just joined Truth Social, mostly because we thought it would be very funny. Follow us there for truths and retruths or whatever they call them," the team wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Biden promotes Republican rivals

The second post was a clip of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) criticizing Trump's contribution to the national debt at last month's primary debate.

Trump is dominating the primary, leaving many to see a Trump-Biden rematch as almost certain. And Trump is tied with Biden in the polls, despite the efforts of Biden's party to have Trump jailed on various sham pretexts.

Within the first day, Biden's team made over a dozen "truths" - mostly of clips from Trump's Republican rivals, such as DeSantis and Nikki Haley, bashing him.

If the goal was to annoy Trump, he's done a good job of hiding his reaction. So far, Trump has not yet given any acknowledgment of his rival joining the platform.

Truth Social is overwhelmingly conservative, so it's unlikely Biden's campaign will make much of an impact.

Trump returned to Twitter in August to post his iconic mugshot - his first tweet in almost three years - but he hasn't been active on the platform since.
