Biden once again links son's death to military service

President Joe Biden has become notorious for repeatedly suggesting that his son Beau Biden died as a result of serving in Iraq.

According to Fox News, that claim was on display again this week as Biden spoke with the family of a service member who was recently killed in Jordan.

Soldier receives posthumous promotion

The network reported that Biden made a telephone call to the parents of 24-year-old Specialist Kennedy Ladon Sanders on Tuesday.

She along with two other soldiers lost their lives this past week when their base came under attack from a drone launched by an Iranian-backed militia group.

Biden told the Georgia couple that their daughter was being posthumously promoted to sergeant, a fact which they expressed gratitude for.

"Oh wow, that is the best news I’ve heard today, thank you so much," Oneida Oliver-Sanders was quoted as saying in response. "You don’t know how much that means to us."

"My son spent a year in Iraq; that’s how I lost him"

However, the president then went on to state, "Oh, well, I tell you what, it means a lot to me. My son spent a year in Iraq; that’s how I lost him."

Later, Biden expanded on this claim by adding, "And my son Beau, he was living near a burn pit in Baghdad. He came down with stage 4 glioblastoma brain tumor, and we lost him too."

Fox News pointed out how glioblastoma is the most common form of brain cancer and that Beau Biden's death did not come until 2015.

What's more, the network stressed that this is far from being the first time that Joe Biden attempted to link his son's death with military service.

Biden twice claimed last year that his son was lost "in Iraq"

Another example came in June of last year when Biden said to students at North Carolina's Nash Community College, "I lost my son — we lost our son in Iraq."

The president had made a similar statement just one month earlier while addressing Marines who were stationed in Japan.

Biden's remarks this week drew criticism from NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck, who wrote, "Of course Biden called one of the three families who lost their child in the Iran-backed drone attack and he made it all about Beau, claiming he's been in their exact same position."
