Biden's cancer care enters 'new phase'

Former President Joe Biden's cancer treatment is entering a new phase.

This is what a spokesperson of Biden recently told NBC News.

This comes after Biden revealed that he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. The diagnosis, at the time, caught many by surprise, considering that it seems highly unlikely that the cancer could have gotten this far without being detected by his medical team back when he was in the White House.

The latest

The spokesperson provided to NBC an update on Biden's condition, including an update on what steps are being taken to combat the cancer.

NBC reports:

Former President Joe Biden is undergoing a new phase of treatment for an aggressive form of cancer that was diagnosed in May, a spokesperson said Saturday. "As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment," the spokesperson for the former president said. The radiation treatment is expected to span five weeks and marks a new point in his care, a source familiar told NBC News.

The outlet notes that Biden "has already been taking a pill form of hormone medication."

Background

Biden first announced his cancer diagnosis back in May 2025.

In a statement, his office revealed:

Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone. While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.

Biden followed this up with a statement of his own.

He wrote:

Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.

Bipartisan support

Biden has received support from both sides of the aisle following his diagnosis - including from President Donald Trump.

Trump called the situation "very sad."

Like many others, he also questioned how it was allowed to progress as far as it has without being caught by Biden's medical team.
