Bill de Blasio endorsing ex-lover's client-candidate to replace Bronx Rep. Ritchie Torres
Former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) has announced his endorsement for Bronx House candidate Michael Blake, who is seeking to replace Rep. Ritchie Torres (D) in 2026.
De Blasio's ex-lover Nomiki Konst is working on the Blake campaign as a strategist and spokesperson, but de Blasio apparently has no hard feelings toward her.
In fact, he reportedly abandoned her to pursue a fling with South Tucson Mayor Roxanna Valenzuela.
He really gets around for a man his age (64), but that's not the point here.
Out of step
De Blasio supported Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani, and he said he thinks Torres is no longer in step with where the party is today.
“New Yorkers and all Americans are turning against the political elite. They are sick of politicians who put donors and power brokers ahead of the people of our neighborhoods,” de Blasio said in a statement the Blake campaign released Monday.
“Michael Blake is rooted in The Bronx and has concrete plans to address the cost of living and affordability crisis facing Bronxites.”
Torres endorsed Andrew Cuomo in the mayoral race against Mamdani, probably because Torres is a strong ally of Israel and Mamdani is not.
But did de Blasio mean that being a supporter of Israel is no longer in step with the Democrat party? Let's hope not.
"Real solutions"
“Michael Blake endorsed Zohran Mamdani for Mayor when Ritchie Torres did not and on day one, Michael Blake will be a respected partner in the halls of Washington to City Hall and to Albany, bringing real solutions to The Bronx,” de Blasio’s statement said.
He also poked at Cuomo's past accusations of sexual misconduct, essentially accusing Torres of not caring about Cuomo's character.
But de Blasio has never been a fan of Cuomo, so the criticism is not unexpected.
It is kind of hypocritical, though, since de Blasio and his wife separated in 2023 but are still married while they date other people. And he seems to be dating a lot of other people while he is still married, though apparently consensually.
