Bill Maher confronts Jay Leno about 'gambling debt' theory
Jay Leno is having such bad luck lately that people are starting to get suspicious.
After three surprising injuries, people are suggesting that maybe Jay Leno getting hurt hasn't been an accident at all. Theories of Jay Leno being in gambling debt have popped up after Leno's string of incidents.
Bill Maher, host of the "Club Random" podcast, recently invited Jay Leno on his show and confronted the late-night legend about the rumors.
The incidents
Before we get into the gambling debt theory, let's have a look at Jay Leno's incidents that have people getting curious about his safety.
1) The garage fire. In 2022, Jay Leno was taken to the hospital by ambulance after his vintage car erupted in flames while Leno was working on it in his garage.
"So I was underneath it, trying to clog, and I said, 'Blow some air through the line,' Leno said about the incident. "Then suddenly, boom, I got a face full of gas. And then the pilot light jumped, and my face caught on fire. My friend pulled me out and jumped on top of me and kind of smothered the fire. I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am OK. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet."
2) The motorcycle accident. In 2023, Jay Leno was riding his motorcycle through a parking lot when he was clotheslined by a wire and suffered a series of broken bones.
"I still got a broken collarbone, two broken ribs, and a couple of cracked knee caps, so if you see me limping around here, well, you probably will for the next couple of videos," Leno said after the incident. "But like an idiot I am going to fix [the Indian motorcycle] and get back on it again, because as you know, once a man hits 40 you can’t really teach them anything. They just keep doing the same stuff over, and over, and over again. Luckily, I’m only 72, had I been an older man this could have been a serious accident. You can still see a little bit of a scar here [on my chin] and a scar on my neck [where the wire caught]; if I had been going like 50 or something, I probably would have been decapitated, so I was pretty lucky. And anytime you don’t get decapitated, well, that’s good luck."
3) The fall down the hill. In 2024, Leno was injured yet again when he apparently tried to take a shortcut down a hill outside his hotel to get to a restaurant and went tumbling. Leno could NOT make it down the hill, slipping and falling and smashing his face on the rock.
"To get to it (the restaurant), I didn't have a car, so you had to walk about a mile and a half around," Leno said. "I said, 'Well, the hill doesn't look that steep. … Let me see if I can go down the hill."
Gambling debt?
It's likely that Jay Leno is just suffering a string of bad luck, but some people are calling the accidents suspicious and suggesting that Jay Leno is being beaten up because he owes a "gambling debt." Bill Maher recently confronted Leno about the claims.
"It’s a conspiracy theory, since you’ve had three accidents that you actually have gambling debts and that you’re being beaten up by the mob," Maher told Leno.
Leno responded, "I love the idea that the mob would drive to Greenburg, Pennsylvania, wait outside the Hampton Inn on kind of a sleety, rainy day to throw me down the hill."
"That’s not what they’re saying, please don’t mischaracterize," Maher interjected. "They’re saying throw you down the hill was your cover story, and they just beat you up like the mob always does."
Maher was clearly having fun with the idea, but do you think there's ANY possibility Jay Leno's injuries could be the result of a massive gambling debt?
