Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg made headlines last week when he called adult film star Stormy Daniels to testify in former President Donald Trump's New York criminal trial.

However, even longtime Trump critic Bill Maher believes that Daniels's testimony may have backfired on Bragg.

Maher highlights how Daniels' story has changed

According to the New York Post, Maher made that argument during Friday night's episode of his HBO show "Real Time," saying, "She's a bad witness."

To support his contention, Maher played a clip from an interview he conducted with Daniels six years ago in which she denied that her claims about Trump were connected with the then-current MeToo movement.

"It's not a MeToo case," Daniels said of her alleged sexual encounter with Trump. "I wasn’t assaulted. I wasn’t attacked, or raped, or coerced or blackmailed."

"They tried to shove me in the MeToo box to further their own agenda. And first of all, I didn't want to be part of that because it’s not the truth and I’m not a victim in that regard," she added.

Daniels now claims that she was left "shaking" from encounter

However, Maher then pointed out that Daniels offered a very different version of events when she recently appeared in court.

When addressing the jury, Daniels described Trump as being "bigger and blocking the way" to prevent her from leaving the hotel room.

The adult film star also asserted that her "hands were shaking so bad" and that she "just wanted to leave." Daniels also claimed to have "blacked out" at one point.

Maher pointed to the contrast in Daniels' words, saying, "She's talking about 'he was bigger and blocking the way.' It's all the MeToo buzzwords."

Defense team moved for a mistrial

"She said, 'There was an imbalance of power for sure.' 'My hands were shaking so hard.' She said she blacked out. Blacked out? She’s a porn star!" he continued.

"Do you really think she blacked out?" Maher asked. "A porn star is used to having sex with people she doesn’t [like]. I just think she's not a good witness."

Fox News reported last week that Trump defense attorney Todd Blanche moved for a mistrial following Daniels' testimony on the grounds that her salacious language was prejudicial.

Although Judge Juan Merchan denied the mistrial request, he did "agree that it would have been better if some of these things had been left unsaid."
