Trump raises fist and tells crowd to fight after being shot

Viral video footage showed Trump grabbing his ear and falling to the ground as a chorus of shots could be heard ringing out.

A group of Secret Service agents proceeded to fling themselves toward the former president and then began helping him to his feet.

As he rose, a bloodied Trump could be heard saying, "Wait, wait, wait," before turning to the crowd and raising his face and shouting "fight."

Trump extends condolences to family of murdered rally goer

Trump released a statement on Truth Social that read, "I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania."

"Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country," Trump  went on to lament.

"I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.

The former president concluded by saying, "Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!"

Shooter identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks

The New York Post reported that the shooter has been identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired multiple rounds from the roof of a manufacturing plant located more than 130 yards from the stage.

The 20-year-old Bethel Park, Pennsylvania resident used an AR-style rifle in the assassination attempt and was himself killed by Secret Service personnel.

The Intercept contributor Prem Thakker noted that while Crooks was a registered Republican, he also donated to the left-wing political action committee ActBlue the day President Joe Biden was inaugurated.

Police subsequently descended on the home of Crooks' parents, with one neighbor telling the Post that a bomb squad arrived at around 1 a.m. on Sunday.
