The formal conclusion to a contentious Hollywood split appears to be nigh, as pop star Britney Spears is reportedly close to finalizing her divorce from Sam Asghari, as TMZ reports.

According to the outlet, speculation about the imminent end to the pair's marital dissolution process was sparked by a recent court filing from Asghari's attorneys.

Asghari's disclosures

TMZ obtained documents submitted to the court by Asghari's attorneys containing information regarding his financial situation, a clear signal that the divorce case could be entering its final stages.

The materials included a declaration of Spears' soon-to-be-ex-spouse's income and expenses.

Asghari also provided information on assets involved in the case, including those held separately as well as jointly with Spears.

Though the dissolution process began roughly six months ago, the type of submissions made by Asghari's team are usually viewed as among the final steps toward reaching a settlement agreement and formalizing a divorce.

Sad end to lengthy relationship

As TMZ explained last year, the high-profile couple separated in the wake of what was described as a blowout fight over claims of cheating on the part of Spears.

Sources indicated in August that Asghari confronted his wife with allegations of infidelity, leading to what was apparently a turning point in their union, which had lasted for 14 months, despite the couple having been an item for far longer.

Following the argument, Asghari was reported to have vacated the marital home and moved into a place of his own, and one source declared that it was “only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce,” which he ultimately did, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

It was that same month that Asghari addressed the situation publicly, posting to social media that “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together,” a statement that he later concluded with the observation, “s*** happens.”

Around the same time, Spears also broke her silence on the split, saying, “As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together...6 years is a long time to be with someone, so I'm a little shocked but...I'm not here to explain why because it's honestly nobody's business.”

Spears in the headlines

It is not just her divorce that is keeping Spears in the headlines these days, as she has been entangled in something of a public back-and-forth with former boyfriend Justin Timberlake, as Forbes explains.

Though the starlet recently offered an apology for certain incendiary revelations from her memoir, some of which involved Timberlake, she later backtracked and said “I'm not sorry,” in a social media post.

Timberlake subsequently told fans during an on-stage performance that he wishes to apologize to “absolutely f***ing nobody,” which prompted a sharp response from Spears, who rhetorically asked him online, “Do you want to bring it to court or will you go home crying to your mom like you did last time???” suggesting that the bad blood between these two has lessened little, despite the passage of years.
