Bruce Willis's wife Emma Heming Willis reacted angrily to media reports that her husband, having been diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, has "no more joy" in his life, saying the reports are "far from the truth" and they should "stop scaring people."

Willis, most famous for the Die Hard movie franchise and the '90s TV show Moonlighting, stepped back from acting after the diagnosis and now has a different life with his family at home.

Emma said in an Instagram video on Sunday that she was "triggered" by what she called a "clickbait" headline about Willis's lack of joy.

“I can just tell you, that is far from the truth,” she said. “A hundred percent, there is grief and sadness, there’s all of that. But you start a new chapter ... it’s filled with love, it’s filled with connection, it’s filled with joy, it’s filled with happiness.”

"Stop scaring people"

“I need society and whoever is writing these stupid headlines to stop scaring people, stop scaring people to think that once they get a diagnosis of some kind of neurocognitive disease, that that’s it, it’s over,” she sad.

She posted a caption to her photo that read,  "There is so much beauty and soulfulness in this story. People that have not taken the time to properly educate themselves on any kind of neurocognitive disease."

There is no cure for Willis's disease, but medications can manage symptoms that include loss of language ability and changes in personality.

Last fall after the diagnosis, Emma gave an update to The TODAY Show about how the family was coping with everything.

“What I’m learning is that dementia is hard. It’s hard on the person diagnosed, it’s also hard on the family. And that is no different for Bruce, or myself or our girls,” she said at the time.

Willis has two young daughters with his current wife and three adult daughters with ex-wife Demi Moore.

How they met

The Willises met through a mutual trainer at their gym in 2007 and married in 2009 in Turks and Caicos, where they both lived.

Emma was formerly a model and the couple unveiled their married status at 2009's Met Gala, which had the theme "The Model as Muse."

They had their two daughters over the next six years and renewed their vows in 2019.

Emma said in 2022 she was glad they renewed their vows when they did, before he began to show symptoms of the disease.
