Canada takes down controversial ad featuring Reagan speech
Canada says that it is taking down the controversial ad that it posted in an effort to push back on President Donald Trump's tariff strategy.
Just the News reports that Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the removal of the ad on Friday.
This came after some serious criticism from Trump.
The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs. The ad was for $75,000,000. They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court,… pic.twitter.com/cDzF1YZdhl

The ad
One of the big news items on Thursday was President Trump's decision to terminate trade negotiations with Canada. This was a move that the president made in response to the controversial ad.
Fox Business reported:
President Donald Trump announced Thursday that trade negotiations with Canada have been terminated over a misleading advertisement featuring former President Ronald Reagan speaking out against tariffs.
Trump released a statement on the matter via his social media account.
The president wrote:
The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs. The ad was for $75,000,000. They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts. TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT
Indeed, Trump included with his message a copy of the message from the Ronald Reagan Foundation, confirming the creation of the misleading ad.
"We've achieved our goal."
As mentioned earlier, Ford now says that he will be pulling the ad down.
Just the News reports:
Ford said he spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and decided to pause the advertising campaign effective Monday so that trade talks can resume. He said the ad achieved his goal of getting the United States' attention.
The outlet goes on to quote Ford as saying, "Our intention was always to initiate a conversation about the kind of economy that Americans want to build and the impact of tariffs on workers and businesses." Ford added, "We’ve achieved our goal, having reached U.S. audiences at the highest levels."
Trump, meanwhile, continues to put pressure on Canada.
In his latest message, he wrote:
CANADA CHEATED AND GOT CAUGHT!!!They fraudulently took a big buy ad saying that Ronald Reagan did not like Tariffs, when actually he LOVED TARIFFS FOR OUR COUNTRY, AND ITS NATIONAL SECURITY. Canada is trying to illegally influence the United States Supreme Court in one of the most important rulings in the history of our Country. Canada has long cheated on Tariffs, charging our farmers as much as 400%. Now they, and other countries, can’t take advantage of the U.S. any longer. Thank you to the Ronald Reagan Foundation for exposing this FRAUD. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!
