A Republican congresswoman who is leading a defense of women's spaces against leftist transgender advocacy has faced escalating threats against her safety in response to her public stance.

Those threats may now have been realized as Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) claims that she was physically assaulted Tuesday evening at the U.S. Capitol complex by a leftist trans activist, Fox News reported.

The alleged assailant, identified as James McIntyre, 33, of Illinois, was arrested by Capitol Police officers shortly after the purported incident and charged with assaulting a government official.

Mace claims she was assaulted

In a Tuesday evening post to her official X account, Rep. Mace said, "I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women. Capitol police have arrested him."

"All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight for women!" the congresswoman added.

About an hour later, Mace provided a similar but slightly more detailed version of the alleged incident on her personal X account and wrote, "I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-tr*ns man. One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine. The Capitol police arrested the guy. Your tr*ns violence and threats on my life will only make me double down. FAFO."

In a Wednesday morning follow-up, Mace posted, "Thank you President Trump for the call just now to check in on me. I’m going to be fine just as soon as the pain and soreness subside. January 20th can’t come soon enough."

Capitol Police confirm arrest

Newsweek reported that a Capitol Police spokesperson confirmed an incident occurred Tuesday evening at the U.S. Capitol and said, "Tonight, the United States Capitol Police (USCP) arrested a person who is accused of assaulting a U.S. representative."

"Just before 6:00 p.m., the Member of Congress' office reported an incident in the Rayburn House Office Building. House Division officers, and agents with the Threat Assessment Section, tracked down the suspect," the spokesperson added. "After an investigative interview, officers arrested the suspect, 33-year-old James McIntyre of Illinois. McIntyre is facing a charge for Assaulting a Government Official."

It was further noted that the Rayburn Office Building was open to the public at the time of the incident and that McIntyre had been screened by security before entering the area, where he attended an event for the Foster Youth Caucus, which is co-chaired by Rep. Mace.

Though unconfirmed, it would appear that the alleged assault against Mace is related to the escalating threats she has received for leading an effort to restrict biological males who claim to be transgender females, including incoming Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-DE), from using women's bathrooms, dressing rooms, and locker rooms.

Advocacy group provides alternate account of incident

The Washington Post reported that McIntyre was at the event at the Capitol complex as a leader of the Foster Care Alumni of America, a group that advocates on behalf of children in foster care with an emphasis on LGBTQ youths.

The group unsurprisingly disputes Rep. Mace's account of what happened and instead insists that what occurred was merely a "passionate handshake" in which McIntyre used both hands to vigorously greet the congresswoman while he allegedly commented, "Trans youth are also foster youth, and they need your support."

The Post noted that McIntyre was held in custody by the Capitol Police overnight and was expected to make an initial court appearance Wednesday morning. It was not yet clear whether McIntyre would be charged with a felony or misdemeanor version of assaulting a government officials, or whether he had an attorney.
