'Catch and revoke': Rubio says he has revoked at least 300 student visas from campus agitators
Foreign students may have gotten comfortable agitating and protesting on college campuses over the last four years, but they should probably be a little more cautious now if they want to keep their student visas long enough to graduate.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Thursday that he has revoked the visas of at least 300 such foreign agitators and will continue to do so as long as the protests continue.
“We do it every day,” the secretary of state told reporters. “Every time I find one of these lunatics, I take away their visa.”
"Zero tolerance"
Rubio stated three weeks ago on X that the administration will have "zero tolerance" for student protesters who express sympathy or solidarity with Hamas terrorists.
“Those who support designated terrorist organizations, including Hamas, threaten our national security. The United States has zero tolerance for foreign visitors who support terrorists. Violators of U.S. law — including international students — face visa denial or revocation, and deportation,” he wrote.
"Catch and Revoke" is the name of the new State Department program used to detect these agitators.
It uses among other resources AI tools to scan social media accounts of foreign student visa holders to determine if they are allying themselves with Hamas or other terrorist groups.
"Looking every day"
“At some point, I hope we run out because we’ve gotten rid of all of them,” Rubio said. “But, we’re looking every day for these lunatics.”
He defended his position as common sense and said it would be "stupid" to allow students to stay in the country when they are actively working against it.
It would be “stupid for any country in the world to welcome people into their country that are going to go to their universities … to start a riot … take over a library and harass people,” he said.
“I don’t care what movement you’re involved in,” the chief diplomat continued. “Why would any country in the world allow people to come and disrupt? We gave you a visa to come and study and get a degree, not to become a social activist that tears up our university campuses.”
“If you come into the United States as a visitor and create a ruckus for us, we don’t want it,” Rubio added. “We don’t want it in our country. Go back and do it in your country. But you’re not going to do it in our country.”
Not used to common sense
Of course, the American people, especially those on the left, are not used to hearing such common sense from their country's officials.
It's got to be a relief to see action being taken to stop some of this egregious behavior after four years of nonsense.
