President Joe Biden, a self-described Catholic, has taken a lot of heat from Catholic leaders over his stances on certain policy stances that completely contradict his own faith.

According to Fox News, a Michigan-based Catholic bishop held nothing back in weighing in on how he feels about the president, suggesting his parishioners offer forgiveness for Biden's "stupidity."

Bishop Robert Gruss of the Diocese of Saginaw delivered a lecture earlier this month called "Forgiveness as the Heart of Christianity" at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption.

During the lecture, the bishop urged those in attendance to "let go of unproductive anger and resentment towards others," including toward the president.

What did he say?

Bishop Gruss asked those in attendance to take a look inside and question any resentment and anger they hold in their hearts, and learn to ultimately let it go in order to be free.

He added that they should also let go of anger not just toward people in their lives, but also politicians, such as President Biden.

"If you're harboring bad, negative, resentful feelings towards our president, you're not free," Gruss said. "Otherwise, you're letting him control you and your thoughts and your words and your actions. And I guarantee that if he is a problem for you, then those thoughts, words, and actions are negative — they're gonna come out and then we commit sin. That's what sin is."

"How many times have you confessed your anger towards the president?" the bishop asked, adding, "I'm serious, I'm not kidding. If you have it, you should be confessing it. Otherwise, you're not free."

"He's just stupid"

Gruss reflected on his personal stance toward Biden and how his policies go against Catholicism, saying, "I don't have any anger towards the president. I feel sorry for him. I'm not angry at him, he's just stupid."

While the comment generated some laughter from the audience, he maintained a serious tone and explained what he meant by the remark.

"It's not stupidity in the derogatory way, it's stupidity in the sense of [...] he doesn't understand the Catholic faith," Gruss explained.

Not surprisingly, Gruss was essentially reprimanded for using the word "stupid" by his leaders, and later issued an explanation and apology for speaking his mind, which completely undermined his message.

"I used the word ‘stupid’ in reference to President Biden, recognizing that it was poor judgment in my choice of words," Gruss said. "It was not meant to be disparaging, and I apologize."
