CBS's Gayle King could be leaving network or switching roles: Report
CBS News’ new Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss is shaking up the network like never before, and some of the network's biggest names are on their way out, much to the delight of President Donald Trump and other high-profile Republicans.
According to the New York Post, Gayle King is set to step down from hosting "CBS Morning" as early as the start of 2026. She could reportedly step into another role at the network, but sources haven't confirmed that she'll go that route.
So far, under Weiss, the network has laid off more than 100 people and slashed the network's overall budget in an attempt to save it from going under.
Two of the network's streaming shows have also been canceled under Weiss' watch. So far, eight on-air correspondents and hosts have been let go.
What's going on?
King's future at the network is still in question, as The Post reported:
King’s current contract with CBS is set to expire in May, The Post has confirmed, although a source familiar with the situation noted that nothing is set in stone and King hasn’t yet made any plans regarding her career after that point.
One of the insiders familiar with King's situation claimed that politics may be playing a role in her decision to move around at the network or leave it, given that Weiss leans to the right and King far to the left.

A CBS spokesperson released a statement on the unfolding situation with King's career at CBS.
"There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026," the spokesperson said.
They added, "She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future."
Social media reacts
Not surprisingly, King's fans wished her the best of luck if the rumors of her exit are true, though emerging details suggest she won't be leaving anytime soon.
"Love Gayle King! Wishing her all the best" one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "After a decade of waking people up, she finally decided to sleep in. Good for her, the alarm clock retirement is real."
It'll be interesting to see if she stays or goes at the network in the middle of its attempted rebuild back to the center.
