Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay targeted in 'swatting' prank
Sadly, there are still groups of losers who sit around and figure out ways to interfere with the lives of others by calling the cops and reporting serious crimes that haven't taken place -- a practice known as "swatting."
According to the Daily Caller, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is the latest celebrity to be targeted by the swatting scheme, which resulted in Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers swarming his home after someone called to report shots fired.
Celebrities are typically who's targeted in swatting calls, and the source of the call often goes undetected.
The ridiculous and sometimes dangerous prank often ties up valuable and limited police resources and poses safety risks to the neighborhood, especially when active shootings are reported.
What happened?
Cops descended on Ramsay's Bel-Air mansion in the latest in a string of swatting calls plaguing celebrities in the Los Angeles area.
The Daily Caller noted:
An unknown person reported that someone fired a gun at Ramsay’s Bel Air mansion, triggering an immediate police response, law enforcement sources told TMZ. Police said they didn’t find any evidence that a shooting had taken place upon arrival and spoke with neighbors who denied hearing any gunfire.
Ramsay, according to LAPD sources, was reportedly not home at the time of the swatting call.
The celebrity chef is the latest high-profile Los Angeles resident targeted by swatting calls. Recently, singers Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown were targeted by similar calls. Actress Jennifer Aniston also recently dealt with a swatting call to one of her homes.
Swatting calls have also turned deadly and tragic in recent history, including an incident at the late rapper Young Scooter's home.
The Daily Caller noted:
Officials said a swatting call turned deadly March 28 when police arrived at rapper Young Scooter’s home. He reportedly had no idea why armed police were at his door and fled from the back of his home. The rapper suffered a fatal injury while attempting to flee and died on his 39th birthday, authorities said. Officials have ruled Young Scooter’s death to be accidental, according to Atlanta News First.
