A celebrity real estate agent in New York who specialized in selling high-end luxury properties and starred in two reality TV shows has died a tragic and untimely death.

Sara Burack, who appeared in Netflix's "Million Dollar Beach Home" and HBO Max's "Selling the Hamptons," passed away from grievous injuries sustained in a hit-and-run car accident on Thursday, Fox News reported.

A separate report indicated that, following a brief investigation of the fatal incident, the suspected driver was tracked down, arrested, and charged with a felony crime.

Celebrity realtor and TV star killed

Thursday evening, Burack, 40, had left a restaurant and was walking along Montauk Highway in Southampton when she was struck by a vehicle and left unconscious with severe injuries, according to the Southampton Police Department.

She reportedly went into cardiac arrest at the scene but was revived, placed on life support, and transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where doctors tried but ultimately failed to save her from "extensive brain injuries, a fractured skull, and various brain bleeds," per Fox News.

Burack was a realtor who worked for NestSeekers International, and one of her colleagues and close friends told the outlet, "She was just a great person … a hard worker. Real estate was her life for so many years," though she also often enjoyed arranging and hosting black-tie events and galas to raise funds for various philanthropic groups, foundations, and charitable causes.

"A lot of people loved her and knew her. She's such a good person and would help anyone," the friend added.

Suspect arrested and charged

The New York Post reported that police used license plate readers to track and locate the vehicle that struck Burack, which was owned and driven by Amanda Kempton, 32, a marine biologist who lives in Virginia but was visiting with friends and family who live in nearby Manorville on Long Island.

She pleaded not guilty during a Saturday morning arraignment to the felony charge of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident in which there is a fatality, for which she could face up to seven years in prison if convicted, and was released from custody after her family posted collateral to cover her $100,000 bail.

According to Kempton's attorney, she had been at a tavern prior to Thursday's deadly incident but insisted that alcohol was not a factor in the accident. Instead, the lawyer claimed, it had been foggy and his client had not seen the victim, and believed that she'd simply hit a traffic cone. It wasn't until she arrived at a friends house and discovered Burack's bright pink suitcase lodged underneath her damaged vehicle that she realized she'd hit a person.

Burack's career in real estate and reality TV

Though Burack had been working in real estate for years, she attained a level of additional fame as a reality TV star when she was a featured agent in Netflix's 2020 series "Million Dollar Beach Home," and that stardom continued with appearances in HBO Max's 2022 series "Selling the Hamptons."

When the Netflix series first premiered, Burack was interviewed by Hamptons.com about the show, the luxury real estate market in the area, and how she got her career going in the first place.

"My family has a commercial construction material sales business that I spent many years of my life working for," Burack shared at that time. "I have always been intrigued by real estate projects and decided to become a broker after my experience as a summer property manager in the summer house I would rent."

"I have been spending half the year in the Hamptons for the past 11 years," she added. "It was only natural to turn my love for real estate into a blossoming career."
