Chris Christie predicts Trump will be indicted before GOP primary debates this summer

Given former President Donald Trump's continued massive influence in Republican politics and politics in general, many have long presumed that the Department of Justice and others would try to hamstring Trump ahead of the 2024 election.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Breitbart reported, is convinced the DOJ will indict the former president before the summer debate season kicks off.

Christie made the prediction during a recent interview on The Hugh Hewitt Show.

The former New Jersey governor said his years of experience as a prosecutor led to his prediction that given Trump's various outstanding legal issues that somehow, they'll find a reason to indict.

Ranking the indictments

Given the multiple legal issues plaguing the former president, Christie was asked where he believed the first indictment will come from.

"All right, now given that all that you know about the President’s legal peril from the perspective of being a prosecutor for so many years, knowing the President, following not from the inside of his legal team, but from the outside and knowing all the players, do you expect he will be indicted before the debates begin in July and August, for, by either the Georgia Fulton County prosecutor, by Jack Smith, by the New York District Attorney?" he asked.

Hewitt added: "Do you expect an indictment of the former President?"

Christie responded with how he thinks it will all shake out.

"All right, now given that all that you know about the President’s legal peril from the perspective of being a prosecutor for so many years, knowing the President, following not from the inside of his legal team, but from the outside and knowing all the players, do you expect he will be indicted before the debates begin in July and August, for, by either the Georgia Fulton County prosecutor, by Jack Smith, by the New York District Attorney? Do you expect an indictment of the former President?" Christie said.

He added: "So I think in terms of the likelihood of indictment, I’d put New York first, the Special Counsel second, Georgia third. But in terms of the seriousness of the peril for the President, I’d put the Special Counsel above either of those."

What if it happens?

The big question is whether or not an indictment, or multiple indictments, would actually impact Trump's campaign. At that point, his campaign will be in full swing, and he managed to dodge quite a bit of fire during his first go around in 2015 and 2016.

The host asked Christie if he believes indictments will be strong enough to interrupt Trump's quest for a second White House term.

"No, I think it’s impossible for them not to make the situation worse, although what I would say to you, Hugh, is that given the limited nature of the New York case, I don’t know that he’s going to be getting a whole lot of questions about the Stormy Daniels situation anyway," Christie said.

Only time will tell what happens over the next year, but everyone can be 100% assured that this will likely be the rowdiest and most insane election cycle in a very long time, if ever.
