The Sunday news circuit will look a little different soon, as one of the regular faces of NBC has decided to call it quits.

According to The Hill, journalist and political analyst Chuck Todd of NBC’s "Meet The Press" announced Sunday that this summer would mark the last one with the popular NBC program.

Filling Todd's role on the program is Chief White House Correspondent and co-anchor Kristen Welker.

Todd has been with the show since 2014. Welker, who has been with NBC since 2010, will replace Todd in the fall.

"Really proud"

"Meet the Press" is the longest-running news programs on television. Todd released a statement reflecting on his time helming the show.

"While today is not my final show, this will be my final summer here at Meet the Press," Todd said at the opening of Sunday's program.

He added: "I am really proud of what this team and I have built over the last decade."

"I'll be honest, though, I leave feeling concerned about this moment in history but reassured by the standards we've set here. We didn't tolerate propaganda, and this network and programming never will," Todd said.

Todd praised Welker, saying that he feels good about his replacement. He praised Welker and stated that he is proud to "pass the baton" to her this fall.

"Just as important, I’m also ready to take a step back because I know the person whom I’m passing the baton to is somebody who’s been ready for this for a while," Todd said. "This is exactly how I always hoped this would end, that I’d be passing the baton to her."

Social media reacts

Todd, often a controversial figure who leans heavily to the left in his coverage of the week's political events, did not find much in the way of a farewell among those who aren't fond of his style.

"Good riddance. @chucktodd turned what was once one of the best news shows into an unwatchable political screed," Mike Davis tweeted.

Another Twitter user added: "A peddler of disinformation , state propaganda and a false witness."
