'CID' actor Dinesh Phadnis dead at 57

'CID' actor Dinesh Phadnis died this week at the age of 57, according to reports.

Phadnis passed away following organ failure after multiple years of treatment at a Mumbai hospital.

The announcement

"His CID co-actor Dayanand Shetty, who played Daya on the show, confirmed the news of his death to indianexpress.com. He said, 'Dinesh breathed his last at 12.08 am.' The actor was 57, and was receiving treatment at Mumbai’s Tunga Hospital," Indian Express reported.

"Shetty shared that Dinesh died of multiple organ failure. He said, 'There were a lot of complications and he was removed from the ventilator last night.' The actor’s funeral will take place in Mumbai at 10.30 am. As per reports, the entire cast of CID visited Dinesh’s home to pay their last respect," it added.

The details

Dayanand Shetty, who played the character of Daya in CID, said, "Firstly, it wasn't a heart attack, it was liver damage, because of which he was immediately rushed to Tunga Hospital, Malad. For the last two days, he has been very critical. Today morning (Sunday) also I've learned that there's no major improvement. We're hoping he gets better soon."

He added, "Dinesh was getting treated for some other ailment but the medication affected his liver adversely. That's why it is always recommended to take medicines very carefully."
He concluded, "You never know when the medicine that one is taking to treat something can cause another major ailment. One should be very careful regarding allopathic medicines."

Words of farewell

"Tanya Abrol, who later joined the popular TV show, shared a bunch of pictures with the late actor and also wrote a lengthy note. She even recalled her work experience with Dinesh," India Today reported.

Tanya wrote, "Dearest Dinesh sir or how we all called him Freddy sir with love and affection. A person who made so many people laugh, be it onscreen or in real life and now that you are gone. Even then we are smiling and laughing thinking about all the stories and incidents but with teary eyes. A roller coaster of emotions. May your journey ahead be peaceful."

Fans and friends mourn in India and worldwide as news of his passing spreads, with the actor leaving behind years of enjoyable programs.
